Has anyone had to change their wedding plans last minute due to the venue??

Kristin, on July 28, 2017 at 8:23 AM Posted in Planning 0 18

So we are getting married in Frisco,NC of the outer banks. As you may have seen on the news there was a power line to the communities that was cut and power may take weeks to restore. There is back up power but AC units are not to be used. So we may be cancelling these plans and getting married at home in Pittsburgh, PA area.

Has anyone had to switch up plans like this and have their wedding in a totally different place in 3 weeks? Does anyone know of places in Pittsburgh that can do just a small wedding with great outdoor space?

Thanks All.

What are your venue and vendors telling you? I would consult them before drastically changing all your plans!

We are renting an event house. They are not to use the AC in the houses. We can't host a wedding without AC in August. Let alone stay in a home on vacation for a week without AC. We did book with insurance and would get the cost of the Event home back but would not get DOC, photographer, cake, officiant and Musicians money back. We have everything paid in full right now except for the food.

We are being told prepare for the worst. We figure we will plan a vacation later in the fall and then coordinate a day that we can still use the services we have paid for then. But now we have to look into getting a venue in our local area for a wedding.

I am so sorry for you Kristen!! All those people that live there and are currently there. what were the chances of that happening?? Stay safe. We have a house in Avon the week before the wedding too but it is booked for the week of the wedding and to small. We aren't set on the date but would like to still have a wedding before summer is over.

We only have 26 people coming. Half are from PA and the other half are from FL and GA. it is a central place for us to drive and get together. The normal meeting place of family and friends. That week is very busy on the Islands and I am having a hard time getting a response back for houses that might be north on the island so that I wont have to change the dates for the vendors just a location.

I live in Pittsburgh and one of my coworkers was just talking about how much she loved the Morning Glory Inn for her son's wedding back in April. Not sure how big the space is, or if they have availability, but it is something to consider.

Oh no!!! I'm so sorry you're dealing with this Kristin!! Hurricane Matthew came during my wedding last year, but in Pinehurst we were far enough inland to still pull off the wedding somehow. Our venue was one of the few buildings that had power all night! A ton of couples had weddings planned that weekend on the coasts of NC and GA and had to reschedule or move their weddings.

Most weddings I heard about still happened that weekend but in a completely different location. Could you reach out to venues in Greenville, Rocky Mount, or Raleigh? That way you'd be able to keep the date and your other vendors!

I feel for you PP and OP! I got stuck at work during the hurricane, was there all night, i work.outside of Raleigh. It will be very difficult to find venues around here on such short notice but they may be willing to help considering the circumstances.

@smox, I love the willow. I tend to seek away by myself there for a drink once in a while. We love out of the fire in Donegal. there food is like the willow but they are also too small. I have had family functions at the park down the road from the willow too.

@kia9 We actually looked at morning glory inn. such a beautiful website. our only concern is the lack of parking.

both these suggestions are awesome. the FH thinks things will be back to normal in two weeks I hope he is right. I think we are going to scale back on much of what we were planning now with the heat being an issue. we may not even do flowers now since we were ordering them from global rose and they need a cool place to open. I think the ice sculptures would just melt away since they were to be inside the event home and they are saying no AC is permitted at this time. And I am thinking I will not be wearing the big over budget dress I bought but the one I bought first that was an ivory mother of the bride dress. Ugh. I am not much for spending money before I need to and this make me more of a last minute spender now. No matter what it will be a day to remember just like Lynnie had.

    Thanks ladies.

3 weeks? Try 3 hours! A couple of weeks ago my friends were about to be married at a lovely historic venue when 3 hours before the ceremony a wildfire broke out nearby and the road leading to the venue was closed and the venue was soon evacuated as well. We had to find an emergency new location while standing in a parking lot with all of the guests waiting to board the party bus. Amazingly we found a building owned by the parks & rec department down by the ocean that didn't already have an event there on a Saturday night in July and they even gave us a discount as well. I would suggest you start calling around now and explain your circumstances - it might get you a pretty good deal on a new location. Good luck!

My fingers are crossed that you will get the venue of your dreams, but I did want to offer one more suggestion: FH's friends got married last June in some public park out by Moon. It had a decent sized building on the property, so the wedding was half indoors and half out and there was a huge parking lot. I am normally not a public park kind of gal, but I LOVED it. Unfortunately, I don't know the name haha

I live close to the Outer Banks and constantly go there for weekend trips. They will probably have the power back up before your wedding. The reason it might take longer is the fact that Frisco is a small town out there. I would check around to see if maybe there is another home available in another part of the Outer Banks like Duck or Kill Devil Hills. There is also the First Colony Inn. I just had a friend that got married there.

I def would prepare for the worst but from what i heard, power should be restored by aug 22. Its hard to look for new venue when this could be fixed in the next week or so.

I think you will be okay , my cousin lives out there and says they are estimating 1.5 weeks for full restoration . I really hope everything pans out for you.
