Has anyone ever caught the bouquet?

Charlene, on February 2, 2023 at 10:12 PM Posted in Community Conversations 0 8

I caught the bouquet when I was 12 at my cousin's wedding. It just came right at me and I caught it. I then got to dance with my cousin, the groom afterwards. I don't know what became of it. I wanted to have it preserved, but we never got around to it.

As for whether or not I was next to get married in my family? Well, technically my older cousin did before me, but she couldn't attend the wedding at the time. To be fair, I couldn't attend her's because I had an important interview for a dream job I wanted at the time at an industry expo that was on the same weekend (which I really regret because the new boss that came in about nine months after I got hired was really mean and I ended up getting another job).

What about you guys?

Sadly I’ve never had any luck catching one 😂 But then again I think I’ve only been to about 8 or 9 weddings in my entire lifetime, even childhood (most people I talk to seem to have been to twice as many as me 😬) and not all of them were ones where I stayed long enough for the activity.

What’s cute though is that at my wedding, one of the bridesmaids caught it, but she knew the other bridesmaid standing next to her was getting married 6 months after me, so she pretended it slipped out of her hands and hit it over to her so she could have a moment to shine😆

I caught the bouquet at my brother and SIL's wedding and at a friends wedding. I wasn't next after either one.

Second time I caught the bouquet, lol. I was technically married, but separated, so couldn't be the next to get married.

That's great! My aunt who is in her 60s and divorced said she would totally fight anyone at my wedding. It was kind of funny because my mom has pictures of her wedding and you can see her in the pictures being all pushy, but her childhood friend caught it instead, she still ended up being married before her lol obviously it didn't last, but neither did her childhood friend's (but she did get it right the second time around!). Some things never change with her. My flower girl who just turned 7 is also really determined to catch it too. Hopefully there is not a brawl between them lol.

I heard an old tradition was that the guy who caught the garter put it on the woman who caught the bouquet, but I never seen this done at all. Probably because all of the brides who did it at the wedding I have been to allowed underage guests to participate and that would be inappropriate. I mean, I was 12 when I caught it.

At my brother and SIL's wedding the guy who caught the garter put it on my leg. The band started making a big deal out of it - my brother was like "hey, you know that's my sister?" - and the guy slipped it on in 2 seconds lol - startled the crap out of the band Smiley xd

Yes, once! When I was 17, I went to my first wedding - a male cousin, whose sister was supposed to catch it as the bride and the sister were very close friends. But, the bouquet came sailing toward me and I caught it. The sister, about 3 years older than I, was furious! We were never really on good terms and she always seemed to be jealous of me. However, I did wind up getting married about 5 years before she did. I wasn't actually the next in the family to marry - another male cousin did but that wedding was already in the making and took place about 4 months later. But I was the next female cousin to get married which I did about 4 years later.

I caught the bouquet when I was 7 and the flower girl at my cousin's wedding, I caught the bouquet when I was 22 at my brother's wedding, and the bouquet at my partner's cousin's wedding back in 2014 hit me on the shoulder and no one else would pick it up so everyone said it was mine, lol.

I have not, but when I was in my 20s I remember more than one wedding where the bouquet hit the floor. The bride tossed and everyone took a step back. In both cases the bride scolded the women for not being good sports and did it again until someone grudgingly caught it.

At my first wedding I didn't do a bouquet toss but a dance for all the married couples. The DJ dismissed couples from the dance floor based on how long they'd been married until only a couple that had been married 57 years was left. They got the bouquet.
