Harry Potter Theme

Ivy13D, on August 14, 2016 at 5:04 AM Posted in Do It Yourself 1 26

So today FW and I went to see our first venue choice, we fell in love with it! They will let me bring the dog for the ceremony (hes my child). And we realized it would be perfect for a Harry Potter theme. We are thinking blue BM dresses for my half of the party (I'm a ravenclaw), yellow for hers (hufflepuff). maybe signature drinks depending on cost, (we have a tight budget for 75 guests). I found some really cute bouquets on etsy that have the roses made from pages of the books. I'm really concerned about it becoming tacky. But I would also love ideas and suggestions.

Anytime you have a theme like that there things that can normally be viewed as tacky to some but when done with the theme can be a little over looked. How themed are you doing? Is dumbledoor going to officiate? Will you have wands? Or is it just an underlying theme?

While SnowQueen has a point, I did a Disney themed wedding and it was everything I dreamed it would be. I think there's a lot of ways you can include your theme without going overboard. For instance, I love the yellow and blue color scheme for your Hogwarts houses (Ravenclaw represent!) and the book page roses are super cute. You could also incorporate it subtly In elements like an owl cake topper or these neat toasting glasses- obviously not these specifically just something like it. I liked to think of my theme as hidden mickeys at Disney World. I tried to incorporate it in fun, unique ways that aren't too obvious but when you notice it you can't help but smile :-)

Oh! If your venue has a fountain we did a really neat dry ice and colored lights effect to bring a little extra magic! It sounds corny in text, but in practice it was gorgeous and super cheap to do!

I"m in the 'little touch' camp. Have the officiant incorporate quotes into the ceremony. Maybe the cake topper, the color scheme. Definitely don't serve owl as an entree .....

Love the idea! Check out http://offbeatbride.com/ for some more inspiration! Here's one that really ran with the theme, but I think is lovely: http://offbeatbride.com/oregon-harry-potter-wedding/

I am Hermione and I approve this theme.

But only with subtle touches so as not to look like a child's birthday party and to keep it looking like an elegant and fun wedding.

What? How about the other two houses? ...lol

I saw someone here made perfect signs for her Harry Potter theme wedding out of grocery bags. It is awesome!

While my inner child would love to sip butter beers and wave my wand at your wedding, people who don't know HP might be lost.

So little touches like other PP suggested might be better.

Subtle touches will make it unique without getting tacky. I love the book roses and the colors. You can always do some corny pictures with your wedding party and wands but keep the reception and ceremony more subtle.

    Update us as you plan!

I would love to go to a wedding like this! There's so many options you can do with your signature drink, too that play with the theme. Butterbeer or Felix Felicis anyone? I just googled this theme for a wedding, and the results showed spell books as centerpieces with each having a sign that said "Welcome to Charms", "Welcome to Potions", etc. I think it will be very fun for you to plan!

Little salty that Slytherin is always left out. There's never any love for Slytherin lol.

But subtle touches are always great. I would enjoy it as a guest as long as it wasn't too kitschy. Smiley smile

We plan on doing little HP touches also! FH isn't crazy about HP, it's really just to humor me Smiley winking We are doing the roses made of the book pages off of Etsy, and incorporating them into our centerpieces. For our placecards we are doing antique keys with a little tag tied on them with the names. We may or may not do more, but that's what we have right now. I don't want it to be tacky-in-your-face, but I think it's important to incorporate personal touches of personality Smiley smile

So we love the champagne flutes! found some that said always and had a doe on them. I liked the wand or keys for the place cards, but there isn't enough room in a venue to do a seated dinner, so we are doing heavy hor d'oeuvres and a mac and cheese bar i think. I found a super cute little bow tie with the deathly hallows symbols on it for my dog to wear.

For a few pictures I was thinking both of us in our house scarves, and one of just our legs and shoes and dress kinds of with our deathly hallows tattoos (they are on our calves.

I am trying really hard not to get too carried away and making it look like a bday party.

Oh I saw a cute whomping willow guest book where you do the finger print things as leaves and you can have your patronous drawn on, and the place has matching un plugged and hashtag prints.

My FH and I are doing something similar. We're going to have touches of HP (for me) and Star Wars (for him) but it's mostly book themed. I've found many cute book themed pins on Pinterest and I couldn't resist.

Subtle touches and you cant go wrong! I actually love themes when the are done well and elegantly (read: not a childs birthday)

Colors is a great place to start. Do lots of candles Like skip the flowers and do just candles. I think this could be very beautiful.
