Handwritten vs. Printed Addresses

Brooke, on March 2, 2017 at 12:49 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 38

So my mom insists that the addresses for our invitations must be handwritten to allow them to be more "formal." (her words) She has volunteered to do this herself as she has beautiful handwriting.

I've never really cared if they were handwritten or printed in a calligraphy-type font.

Problem I'm having is we need to start handwriting them if that's the route we're going, and my mom has a ton of bad things going on in her life right now. Even though she volunteered, I feel as though the writing is just a time-consuming burden that she should not have, and ordering printed envelopes is not terribly expensive & fits our budget since I got the invitations on sale.

What are y'alls opinion of handwritten vs. printed invitations?

Handwritten is more personal, but honestly I wouldn't even notice. The envelope is the first thing I throw away. We are doing clear labels in a calligraphy type font.

Honestly like @Karen said, I wouldn't even notice but I know we're printing ours. It's just easier and less stressful on us. I feel like knowing me, I'll misspell a ton of stuff have to throw out the envelope and then run out of envelopes before I get half way through the invites ha

I don't think I've ever paid attention to whether an invitation was hand addressed or printed. Go with the easy route!

People won't notice whether they are handwritten or printed, they end up in the trash. I was torn between the two as well though. I hand wrote my save the date envelopes and wasted SO many envelopes on mistakes, I was glad that I ordered extra envelopes. I was contemplating whether I wanted to put myself through handwriting again for the invitations and found out that my stationary person does calligraphy addressing for free. So I am going the printed route, it saves so much time and in my case, paper.

I would never notice. The printed ones are really pretty.

Had mine printed by WPD they looked great! My FIL offered to hire a cartographer but had already paid for printing which wasn't terrible cost wise so either way I'm sure is fine as envelopes go in the trash first! Lol

We printed ours. My fiance has less than stellar handwriting and I didn't want to hand address each of the envelopes or pay for calligraphy. Etsy has tons of awesome templates!

To those who printed: just regular printer at home? Was it hard to configure the right size? I feel like I'll mess the whole thing giving I have to have exact measurements ... tips?

I'm a sentimental person and save a lot of little things forever; however, most people will throw out an envelope and some will eventually even throw out the invitation itself. In the big scheme of things, a handwritten vs. printed address doesn't matter much. A handwritten one seems more personal to me (I wrote our addresses in cursive) than printed, but it's also more time consuming. Do what works best for you for this, it's one of the little things that won't matter in the end.

Mine are handwritten-although my godmother helped me address them (she knows calligraphy). I attempted to just write my half nicely--I think it came out ok. I haven't sent them yet, but part of me wishes I had done printed. It's all good...years from now, I think I'll just enjoy remembering the day (and not worry about what my invites looked like lol).

We printed addresses directly onto our envelopes.

@PBiazinha: To do this, you'll need a printer with a flat-feed (manual-feed) tray. You can't just put the envelopes into the paper tray (at least in most printers), since it will jam due to the flap on the envelope. Check if your printer has this! If it does, you'll need to tell the printer in the print menu to feed from the manual tray. Also, put in the exact size of your envelopes, indicate paper thickness, and tell the printer it's an envelope, if that's an option.

ETA: You might need to install your printer driver to do this. I definitely did.

We hand wrote ours and it took forever, like an entire Friday night. Printing them would have been so much easier. We were able to get our return address printed on the envelopes but I didn't have everyone's address to have those printed too. My advise would be to have them printed in a nice font and no one will notice.

I just hand wrote all 60-70 something of our save the date's yesterday. It probably took 2-3 hours. But I turned on some TV and was fine. They're not as pretty but printed addresses are not even in our budget for invites so handwritten everything it is. If you can do the printed addresses, I would say go for it because it does look really nice and it will save you time for sure! But if you decide to go with handwritten it's not a bad thing at all.

I printed our STD and plan to print the invites. I used a nice font and honestly most people wont notice. Things like that just don't matter to me. If its causing you any kind of stress then just go with the easier route. This is not something I would stress over.
