Handwritten or printed invitation addresses?

My mother taught me that it's rude not to hand write the addresses on your wedding invitations. But my handwriting isn't that great, and a calligrapher quoted me $4 per invitation. Is it old fashioned to believe that invitations must be handwritten? Is it acceptable these days to print them?

I don't have beautiful handwriting but I'm going to write out all the addresses by hand...people will be more interested in what's inside the envelope!

I'm printing labels myself. It cost $13 for like 300 labels. Plus it's easier to type it once and print multiple times (for save the dates, invites, and thank you letters) as opposed to hand writing.

Printed lables for us .. if you wanted to you could *fake* calligraphy or some sort of fancy script.. print in very very light grey and trace with ink/black sharpie type of pen ... but... it does immediately end up in the garbage, it's true what they say - no one cares as much as you about your wedding stuff

$4 per invitation for a calligrapher is expensive. I would check Etsy or a local wedding FB page. I am in Connecticut and received quotes as low as $1.50 per envelope.

I was going to ask one of my bridesmaids or my maid of honor whoever has the nicest handwriting to help me out with that. My handwriting is not pretty at all, it's like a mans.

I'm practicing my handwriting and using The Postman Mark.

Yes they go into the trash, but I think it's personal preference. I don't judge a printed envelope, but I love so much when I get handwritten ones.

Personally, I think bad handwriting looks worse than plain printed addresses or labels. Anyway, I would not lose any sleep over this and save your money for things that actually matter.

I don't know if this is proper etiquette, but when I did my graduation announcements, I bought an address label template on etsy and printed them out and used that! Obviously these are a little casual for a wedding, but they have some really nice ones that I'm thinking about using! The part that wraps around the back had a space for the return address too. Sorry all I have is an insta screen shot of them.
