Hand delivering invitations

Glenn, on October 24, 2011 at 11:30 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 44

Is anyone else hand delivering some/all of your wedding invitations? For all of the ones that work with either NiseyyD or myself we are hand delivering them and it's been interesting in the different reactions I've gotten so far. I've dropped off 7 today and heard from 4 of them. Two were extremely excited to get them and then the other two IM'd me and said "so I see I'm not worth a stamp". Obviously they were teasing (and that's EXACTLY what I would say) and had no issues but I thought it was funny.

I honestly wish I could hand deliver 90% of them but sadly that's not even remotely possible, but it was nice to be able to hand a few to some people and I'd encourage it if you have the chance.

I had an invitation hand delivered this year and I thought it was great! Such a personal touch, we are planning on doing it for our local guests =).

I hand delivered about 20 of the 120. I heard no negative comments, but who knows what they really thought. I wish I would've hand delivered my sister's since her soon-to-be-ex-husband threw hers in the trash.

My favorite response to those who made the comment about not being worth the stamp was that there was one on the inner RSVP envelope! My buddy said he was going to steam off the stamp and use it for a card at Christmas! I told him I couldn't care less as long as he gave me back the RSVP card.

We're hand delivering ours because we're thinking of doing scrolls. Smiley smile Either way, it's a nice personalized touch. The out of town ones will have to be mailed though.

I think that sounds budget friendly and very personal, as a guest I would much rather receive a hand delivered invite. I'm going to look into hand delivering as well. Thank you for the idea.

That's the least of the f'ed up things he's done.

The only thing I see wrong with hand delivering (esp at work) is the potential to hurt someone's feelings that they weren't invited. Like, if you hand your friend and invite in front of a B-lister or a not-invited person.

I thought about that Pumpkin and I've been careful to not hand them to anyone (who was at their desk, a few I just left at their desk and they are the ones who wasted no time in IM'ng me). Realistically though, I don't have many people I'd consider "friends" (like out of work friends) here at the office that are on the B list anyhow.

As long as a person keeps that in mind, there shouldn't be an issue. :-)

I hand delivered some for my friend's wedding and most of the reactions were positive. I guess they figured they got it 3-4 days earlier than if the bride had stuck them in the mail.

Idk about you Glenn / NiseyyD, but my friend loved seeing people's reactions to the invitations she chose. She got a little more confidence about her whole wedding vision every time someone reacted well in front of her.

Oh, I don't care about their reactions to what we chose, we just did a DIY kit from Michaels and invites weren't really a big deal to us.

No we stamped all of ours and included the rsvp stamp as well. We even mailed 3 invites to the people that live within a few feet from us on same street. FH said it was how things are done...I was thinking about saving stamps.

I think this is lovely and I really want to do this. Not only for my in town guests but when I travel to my mothers I want to try and hand as many as I can to the people invited in that time frame! Haha.

I'm going to run over to my parents today and hand deliver there's and some other family members that live near them but I'm going to mail my Uncle's even though he lives 4 doors down from my parents simply because I don't want him thinking that by hand delivering I actually want him to come.

I'm only going to be hand delivering to my work (two people) and immediate family/FH's immediate family. I don't see everyone on our guest list all the time so it is just more convenient to mail them, regardless of cost of postage.

I hand delivered my STDs to a few coworkers..but I view getting it in the mail as more formal, so I sent the actual invitations in the mail..however I certainly woudln't be offended if someone hand delivered them to me. There are a range of opinions on this topic..I think it's interesting how this also varies cross cultrually and over time/generations.

Our best man hand delivered all of our invites for the folks in Ireland. The addresses are kind of screwy over there so that way we were assured the post didn't send them back and we know they got them. All the guests were very flattered by the personal touch.
