Hand ceremony

Linda E: Fairy Godmother, on August 25, 2012 at 7:12 PM Posted in Planning 0 11

Haven't seen this posted in a while and I love it so much I asked our pastor to use it as part of the ceremony. Of course we changed it a little so it doesn't say young and substituted grandchildren for children:

These are the hands of your best friend, young and strong and full of love for you, that are holding yours on your wedding day as you promise to love each other today, tomorrow and forever.

These are the hands that will work along side yours as together you build your future.

These are the hands that will passionately love you and cherish you through the years, and with the slightest touch will comfort you like no other.

These are the hands that will hold you when fear or grief temporarily comes your way.

These are the hands that will countless times wipe the tears from your eyes, tears of sorrow and tears of joy.

These are the hands that will tenderly hold your children.

These are the hands that will give you support and encouragement to chase down your dreams.

These are the hands that will hold you tight as you struggle through difficult times.

These are the hands that will give you strength when you need it.

These are the hands that will lift your chin and brush your cheek as they raise your face to look into eyes that are filled with overwhelming love for you.

And lastly, these are the hands that even when wrinkled and aged will still be reaching for yours, still giving you the same unspoken tenderness with just a touch.

We are doing a hand ceremony as well!!! Ours is worded a little differently though..

A hand blessing is a ritual that is meant to draw you closer to one another. Shakespeare wrote, “Now join your hands, and with your hands your hearts.” It is believed that the hands are a connection to the heart, and a hand blessing symbolically brings two hearts together. Now Amber & Matthew invite all of you to join hands with a loved one, as they join hands in preparation for their vows.

These hands you hold are the hands of your best friend, young & strong and full of love for you, that are holding yours on your wedding day as you promise to love each other today, tomorrow & forever.

These are the hands that will work along side yours, as together you build your future, as you laugh & cry, as you share your innermost secrets & dreams.

These are the hands that will passionately love you & cherish you through the years & with the slightest touch will comfort you like no other.

These are the hands that will hold you tight as you struggle through difficult times & will embrace you with joy to celebrate your victories.

These are the hands that will countless times wipe the tears from your eyes, both tears of sorrow & tears of joy.

These are the hands that will comfort you when you are sick, or console you when you are grieving.

These are the hands that will give you support as you chase down your dreams. Together as a team, everything you wish for can be realized.

These are the hands that will tenderly hold your children.

These are the hands that will help you hold your family as one.

And, lastly, these are the hands that, even when wrinkled & aged, will still be reaching for each other, still giving each other the same unspoken tenderness with just a touch.

May these hands continue building a relationship founded in grace, rich in caring, & devoted to one another. May Amber & Matthew always see their four hands as healer, protector, shelter, & guide.

I love handfastings, and I do them a lot. I would read that specific reading out loud and see how it sounds to you as you hear it, not as you read it. I love the sentiment, but hearing it in exactly this form is repetitive. Keep in mind that it is also almost always done at the end of the ceremony, when your guests have the least attention span left.

    Just my experience.

How ironic... I just read this earlier this afternoon as part of a collection of romantic ceremony readings. I read it to FH and told him I wanted to include it in our ceremony. I thought it was beautiful.
