Halloween/Gothic wedding

Jasminerose, on July 4, 2009 at 10:47 PM Posted in Planning 0 31

We're planning to have a wedding on Halloween, leaning toward elegant Gothic (think Sleepy Hollow, Phantom of the Opera, etc) with some Halloween touches. Would you enjoy this as a guest? What elements would you add if you were planning something like this?

Congratulations on your upcoming wedding! Of course, music always sets the stage for your style. Our string quartet played for a 'Halloween' wedding this last year and were asked to incorporate 'Phantom of the Opera', and well as some movie music from shows like 'Harry Potter' and 'Pirates of the Caribbean'. Good luck!

I would LOVE this. Halloween is my favorite holiday, and we were originally thinking about getting married on Halloween, but I'm still in college and it just works out better to have it during a break. Most people would expect you to acknowledge the day in one way or another, especially if you're the type of people who would do that. I wouldn't require costumes of your guests, but we were going to incorporate a note saying the ceremony was formal, but everyone was welcome to dress up for the reception. We were also thinking about having trick-or-treat stations for the kids.

I too would love this, as I love Halloween and the Gothic period. How about taking a cue from Phantom of the Opera's Masquerade? Have masks for the guests, or incorporate them into centerpieces. More like Mardi Gras masks as opposed to Halloween masks. We photographed a Quincinera party, where the theme was Masquerade, and the guest of honor wore a gorgeous, full deep red gown (with matching mask) and her attendents were all in black, with matching masks. Her escort was in a tux, with a cape. Oriental Trading company carries masks. Perhaps bare branches used in the decorations, along with lanterns. Incorporate the look into your invitations and programs.

I agee with the above post about the music. That will really help set the mood and those are nice choices mentioned.

Your wedding colors will also help add to the atmosphere.

Congratulations and best of luck to you!!!

I did one this past year. You can see photos on my page. She wore a Blood red gown (Gorgeous!) The groom and ALL guests wore black. Bridesmaids wore black strapless dresses and blood red roses for their bouquets! The cake topper were male and female skeletons. The party was truly awesome!! Her email starts with vampres and I never met her during the day. Muwahahaha! Kidding aside a phenomenal party and one that I will always remember.

My wedding is Oct 31, 2009 & i'm doing a "masquerade" style wedding. i decided to not have a halloween costume party-style because i know some guests wouldn't want to be told they had to dress up. i'm supplying masks as favours/centrepieces so everyone can have the "feel" of being in a costume.

Personally I would enjoy this theme, since Halloween is my favorite holiday. There was a "Who's Wedding is it Anyway?" on the other day that had a Halloween theme. You should try to find it, there were some really good ideas. The one thing that I liked was they used pumpkins (small ones) for their centerpieces. But they sprayed them with a metallic orange paint and they looked awesome. Good luck.

This is a very cool theme and I'm sure your guests will love it! Black linens with icicle lights under the skirts on the specialty tables looks great. You could also use black drapes with twinkle lights for backdrops. Black eyelash fabric would be very nice as overlays. I like the idea of incorporating masks in the centerpieces. How about little pumpkins filled candy for favors. A horse drawn carriage as transportation between venues would be great. Think about the architectural elements of the Gothic period, columns, arches and gargoyles. Balloons are a great way to add these elements check out http://www.balloonresourcecenter.com/decoratorideas0509.htm scroll about half way down the page for a great example.

I don't have any new suggestions, but I just wanted to say that the ideas mentioned here are awesome! Centerpieces of pumpkins and bare branches, masquerade masks as favors, and a candy buffet? I can see that all coming together into an amazing reception!

Congratulations on your wedding. I just designed a haunted house wedding card box for an upcoming October wedding. The wedding theme was The "Nightmare Before Christmas." Take a look at the wedding card box, everybody the bride showed it to really loved it. Maybe you could incorporate something like that in your wedding. Good luck.

Congratulations on your wedding!!! I love halloween too and I was also thinking of getting married on that date (still just an option). The first thing I thought about was the decoration and specially flowers. I absolutely love flowers. For a halloween wedding you could use the usual black and orange or maybe even dark red, burgundy or dark purple for the gothic part. Here some links of this flowers website I found. You can buy by flower color! Makes it so much easier!!!

I dont know what your colors are but what about using Black, Gold and red. This would put a classy spin on the "season" Use lots of candles, you could spray paint pumpkins gold and maybe even used a lot of dried flowers to get that dead halloween feel but still have it look pretty. I love the idea of using the phantom of the opera as a guide. I LOVE that storie, been 3 times to the show, own the movie and book.

This could be tons of fun.

What a fun idea! I've been to a victorian gothic wedding before and it was amazing. The bride's dress and the cake were black and purple. They gave away tiny gargoyles as favors.

My fiance once went to a Halloween wedding where the bride and groom dressed as Morticia and Gomez Adams :-)

I guess it depends on if your guests enjoy Halloween as much as you do.

We're doing a vow renewal on Haloween, but in 2010. We are planning a role reversal wedding where she is the groom and I am the bride.

I think it is a great idea--so much fun! I think they featured a Halloween wedding on the TV show "Whose Wedding is it Anyway?" I think the masquerade idea is great. I did a Halloween rehearsal dinner last year that was fun--the guests loved it! It was a great way for people to begin a coversation and get to know everyone else.

I love Halloween. We decided not to go with it because some of our guests have kids, and we figured they would want to be at home trick or treating with the kids. But I love the idea of a Phatom theme!!!

I have seen this done, now I have never performed one like this, but I know a person who did a Halloween wedding and all guests had to come in costume to the wedding. The guests loved it! Since you are leaning towards more elegant than that might not work but if you go with the phantom theme you could always do a masscarade theme and ask guests to dress in a mascarade attire. You could really have fun with it and I really think they would love it.
