Halloween Weddings

So I’m planning a Halloween wedding 10/30/2020 my favorite holiday.
but I am adamant about not doing anything overly cheesy. Not that there is anything wrong with it. Just not my personal vision
Im planning an elegant affair Victorian soft gothic. Brocade, Black, Gold, dark florals. Doing sequin overlays on the tables, smoke bombs with our photos, Don’t wanna give away too much as I’m planning some very special things I’m making myself for centerpieces and photos which I will share after of course.
Doing a formal wedding too.
My budget is small and we are paying for everything ourselves. So we are opting to do some stuff to glam it up that’s cheaper than paying extra for it at the venue. Our package came with a photo booth so guests can get their ghoul on in the photo booth with props. A fair compromise I think
Im wearing a mauve blush gown, silver embroidery. Wanted a grey gown but couldn’t find one in my price range, but I got a steal I feel with the one I got and it’s everything I could of imagine. Brocade appliqué lace, bling, a vintage touch. I’m opting for a crown and a draped cape veil because my hair will be all grown out and styled pretty and I want to show it off and wearing dark blue shoes.

Getting married a Wedgewoods The Sterling Hotel in Sacramento CA which is a old Victorian Mansion that was converted to a boutique hotel. Just gorgeous

What are your your plans and theme?
Mid you want some inspiration here’s my Pinterest pins for my ideas and vision....maybe give you some too?

Attached photos are my dress and shoes. Haven’t locked down much else with jewelry or anything yet.
Bridesmaids and my brides man will be in all black.
Girls in floor length satin mermaid cut gowns and my brideman, my groom and groomsman will be in black 3 peice tailed suits.

Share your ideas and inspiration!!

My fiance and I are getting married October this year and have decided to do a masquerade theme (with the idea of the aesthetic being elegantly eerie), we are also on a budget and doing everything but the photos, ourselves!

You look absolutely lovely and I'm too late to tell you this but it may come in handy for your bridesmaid dresses. You can get really nice dresses on amazon for a good price in all colors (I picked a black dress that was $70) and then just get alterations, I need to add cups, take up the straps and hem (I'll add pictures after final fitting and have been quoted for $150), and still have room in your budget for other items.

For budget friendly decorations head to the thrift store! We have two local thrift stores that have $.50 Sundays, where all of a certain color tag is only fifty cents. We were able to get tons of decoration items for far less than trying to buy new. We didn't want to do a lot of paper items for our wedding (programs, signs, labels and such) because if I'm honest with myself I know most of it will just end up in the trash, so, we decided to get varying sized pictures with really nice frames (8x11 all the way up to this huge gorgeous 36x36 frame) and took out the pictures and placed really pretty gold and/or black card stock inside and used black and/or gold sharpie to write on the glass. This is something that we plan on using in our house for grocery lists and calendars and other things like that, creating a little bit of fancy in our everyday life!

We also aren't having a caterer and are doing charcuterie styled serving platters, we got some MDF board and covered it in black and gold marble contact paper, same for our cake display. We are going to put the fun condiments and jellies and such on the table in the glassware (ornate candle holders, interesting vases and other fun containers) from the thrift store as well, if you decide to do something similar I recommend you wash everything in vinegar, it gets dust and other grime off and leaves glass beautiful.

PLAY ON LIGHT, you can make or break your decorations by what type of lighting you use. We bought several strands of outdoor lights, our ceremony is outside and most of the reception will take place outside as well, and this is where I can really play up the elegantly eerie aesthetic that I'm going for, by providing enough light to see but not enough to banish all of the shadows! We don't have a lot of room in our budget for tons and tons of flowers for centerpieces but we did get quite a few artificial flowers and LED tea lights off amazon, saved up wine bottles and bought 6x6" mirrors from the dollar store for table lighting. We cut off the bottoms of all of the clear glass bottles and are going to set the tea lights inside the bottles on top of the mirrors with a few flowers at the top of the bottle, we are going for a more intimate feel of the tea lights and mirror will help keep everything illuminated.

Have you decided what colors you want for your Halloween wedding? I know you said you were thinking about Victorian Gothic which would be a good opportunity to play up back lace and things like that.

So I’m doing black with gold accents and eggplant purple but more shadowed in. Our package includes black floor length linens so I’m buying sheer organza overlays in eggplant for the tables so the purple is there but not overwhelming and help the gold accents pop a bit more. I’m going to do a really unique and special centerpiece that I’m gonna diy that the florist can put a few things around. In california we aren’t allowed to have candles! Which really sucks because it’s such a special detail I wanted. So adding in the eggplant color we weren’t going to do will add some depth and we get specialty lighting in the ballroom with our package which will do a lot for the aura and mood of the space.
We also added gold chargers to our place settings which will help. Black napkins which I’m going to put a small metal Gold tone hummingbird skulls on a gold ribbon on them for the napkin rings. Which double as favors, we will have a jar or vase with brass keychain rings for them. Or if some want they can use them as a pendant.
We are going to raid the Halloween stores this year looking for some pieces on sale we can diy for our tables and photo props. As well as the local 99 cent store for a few things.

Found a maker on etsy for my bouquet. Having her make a floral piece for our cake. Which will be black buttercream and a small 2-3 bloom sets for the bridesmaids that will be attached to lanterns they will be carrying instead of traditional bouquets.

We get florals with our wedding package but only a few blooms for the tables and a piece for the sweetheart table. So money saved by finding a really good artist on Etsy to do faux flowers.l for bouquets.

We are doing our ceremony 1hour before sunset so we have perfect dusk lighting for our traditional group and couples photos and as it gets darker the non traditional photos we plan on that our photographer is super excited about.

Thank you all for the dress compliments. I was surprised how well the one in the store fit me! My dress comes in sometime in September and I’m so excited to get it on. As per the fit on the floor I think the only alteration I have to do is get the waist pulled in on it and add some padding in the cups other than that it fit perfectly.

I’ve decided I’m going to make my shoulder draped veil myself. After looking at them and seeing that they are sooo expensive $300 at cheapest and researching and finding that it’s only about $60-$80 in materials and knowing how to sew. I’m just going to make it.

Have you looked online for veils? I bought mine through a bridal shop in Kentucky

    https://affordableelegancebridal.com/

and am very happy with my choice. My bridesmaid thought it was the same veil I tried on at the shop I bought my dress at, and it was half the price. They will send you free samples to match dress fabric too.

That’s my kinda wedding!! I love Halloween and originally wanted an elegant Halloween wedding. My colors were black and purple. And at the reception we were gonna ask the guest to bring their costume for a costume contest.however a lot has changed But I am still getting married in October almost close to Halloween.

Before we changed everything my cousin was going to make these centerpieces. We also had a custom pumpkin made for us that was gonna be on the bride and groom table.

She bought the candle holders online I think 10 a piece and bought the beads necklace at the dollar store and spray painted them black.

She glued the foam to the candle holders. she said it was super easy and cheap. The only expensive thing were the candle holders.
