Hairstyle for thin/fine hair (trial pics included)

Monana, on July 6, 2014 at 8:22 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 20

I had my hair and makeup trial yesterday. I had a couple inspiration pictures of the hair being curled and then braided around to one side. The stylist said I didn't really have enough hair to achieve that look, and I do not want to use extensions. She did try but afterwards said it would work better to kind of just twist some pieces to the side. I am not 100% happy. The curls held well, and she pinned it really securely, but I still want to incorporate a braid. Not sure if I should pay for someone else to do another trial or if it really is that unachievable.

Does anyone have any good photo ideas for a similar style on thin/fine hair?

Here are my inspiration pics and I will post my trial below

    My trial:

What should I ask for differently? This worked fine for my engagement pictures but I really want it to come off more bridal on the wedding day.

The last two pictures were also taken like 4-5 hours later, so it may look a little straggly.

I have thin hair too and it sucks! The picture from the front is beautiful but the back is completely different than what you asked for. I think you should try another stylist but maybe find another braid to incorporate. I could see how that certain one is impossible for thin hair. It would just be a tiny braid instead of the big & bold one like you are asking for.

This is going to be the same problem I run into I have long hair that is very thin and a hair dresser friend of mine told me I would need extensions to achieve my look! I'm really hoping she's wrong. I think your hair turned out really pretty.

I'm not an expert, but I do also have fine/thin hair, (and mine's a lot shorter than yours), and I've learned....for me, that I just have to accept that my hair won't do certain things. It may be a different stylist could do something closer to what you want, but it may be that you should try something that works with your hair instead of against it. You are beautiful and have great long hair, you deserve to have it looking the best that day!

You could try just paying for an updo at another salon and see how that goes before deciding whether or not to switch stylists.

The top pictures look so beautiful. I completely understand your dilemma since I too have fine, thin hair. I would love to wear my hair down but I'm afraid it won't stay beautiful and fresh. Also, the top two pictures make your hair look thick and full, absolutely beautiful!

If you really want a braid, you can get 1 extension to use as a braid instead of having a head full of extensions.

I do not personally like your hair trial, and I don't think it's because of your specific hair, I think the stylist did not do a good job. I would go to a new stylist and have a new trial!

Good luck! I don't even have thin hair but I am wearing extensions! I love the full volume look!!

As she was starting to work with my hair she said that curling my hair and adding product did help build volume, she tried a braid but wasn't happy with the results so she undid it without even showing me. She did say that the highlights in my hair helped add dimension too.

I don't really want extensions because I am afraid that through the day my hair may shift and show the tracks/clips. Another issue of having fine hair, and not much of it. I also worry that since my hair is highlighted that the extensions may not blend well.

The stylist had great reviews, and her pricing was pretty similar to other stylists in the area. I didn't want to have to get multiple trials so I stayed positive and I paid her the deposit. Ugh, now I don't know.

I have similar hair and from my experience, if I did a do like that, the curl will drop in a couple hours (shorter if hot). I would suggest a different style.

I go to a lot of weddings, and I've noticed that braids don't hold up well all night. The hair is going in too many different directions, it's bound to start coming out one way or another, no matter how much hairspray. If you really want a braid, I'd suggest a smaller one. Or at least make sure you get all your formal pictures done as early as possible.

You can go to the top stylist in the world and they will tell you the same exact thing. The girl in your inspiration picture has a ton of hair. Unless you get extensions for the fullness, you won't be able to achieve that.

Edit: I just read your above comment why you don't want extensions. If clip ins are put in properly, they shouldn't move. I've been wearing extensions in my hair for almost 10 years. I have fine hair also, so I completely understand the frustration. My hair has been highlighted my whole life and I've never had a problem matching my extensions.

I dunno, I just don't want my hair all up, I never wear it up.

The curl had held pretty well, through our engagement photos and it rained. I took it down at about 11pm, and it was still pretty curly even when I woke up this morning.

This is how it looked when I took out the bobbypins:

I would also suggest a different style. I have super thin hair and it was a challenge to come up with hair ideas. I do love what she did but a braid would of looked very small with how thin my hair is. Now you can do a braid and it will be thin and there are cute styles with braids that I would look into. This pic is probably pretty close what a braid would look like for you (still cute!).

Tell her to put some hairspray in it and give it some volume, maybe do some teasing underneath to bump it up

My hair is pretty fine too, and I realized that if I want any kind of style to last the day with me, it is going to have to pinned up...honestly, I would go with a different style, as you said, it wasn't very bridal and I could tell by just looking at your inspiration pix just how the the model's hair is (see the thickness of the braided part itself?!?!)

Your trail from the front looks pretty, but from the side looks limp. 4-5 hours into your wedding day isn't much, so you want a hairstyle that will hold. I would make sure that they tease your hair, especially in the braid. It will make it appear much large. Here are a few photos that I found that may work. If you're hesitant, I would get another trial from elsewhere. You don't want to feel less than pretty on your wedding day.

I highly recommend trying clip in extensions. I used them for my wedding. They won't move or show if the stylists puts them in correctly. They can also be dyed to match your hair color. I would give it a try. They really made my hair look fabulous. You can get real hair clip in extensions at sally's for a little over $100. They were worth every penny.

I have thin hair too, and teasing is my best friend. I tease my hair every single day and it makes it look so much thicker. I had my hair trial a while ago and went with an up-do. I was nervous about it because I never wear my hair up and always loved it down. But my stylist did a WONDERFUL job. My inspo picture was a lady who had SOOOO MUCH more hair than I did, but I told her I didn't want extensions and she worked with what I had. I think it turned out amazing. I am with other ladies on here, try a different style. There were a million styles out there that I wanted, but knew I couldn't have because of my hair. You have to find something that you like and that will look good! Smiley smile Below is my inspo pic. and then my actual trial.

I think you can have a braid in your hair... just not the one that you want because for that you definitely need a lot of hair. Have you looked at other braided bridal hairstyles? Just a thinner braid would probably work fine for you.... And I agree, try a different stylist.

You had your trial already? Damn girl!

I think you should maybe go with a different stylist for your wedding day. Luckily you have a lot of time to try something else. and I agree that your hair looks limp in the pictures. Also are you planning on having any kind of pin or hairpiece in for your wedding? You will want to have something for that to hold onto and it looks like a comb would fall out.
