Hair trial on the day of the rehearsal?

Danielle R., on June 25, 2010 at 11:19 PM Posted in Planning 0 21

My salon is wanting to do my trial on the day of the rehearsal. Here's my problem.... my FS does NOT want to see me the day of the wedding. If I show up to the rehearsal with my hair all done, won't that ruin part of the "wow" effect on the big day? Should I go to my trial and then wash my hair immediately after?

I think if that's important to the two of you then yeah. It might feel like a "waste" of a trial, it would be worth it to give him the complete surprise that he wants. My FH knows about everything but the dress and although he knows the type of hairstyle I'm going to have I still don't think I'd want him to see it in full effect until the day of.

I don't know if maybe it's too late for this, but have you had your final fitting yet? I mean, my plan is to have my hair trial on the day of my final fitting, so I can try to dress, veil, and shoes on and get the entire effect. Just a suggestion. Hope this helps!!

Maybe I'll talk to my FS and see what he thinks. I'd hate to waste the trial, but I REALLY wouldn't want to ruin it for him.

Ask him if its the whole look he doesnt want to see or any part of it. A lot of guys dont really notice details and dont get how *looks* go together. So...while he would notice the hair, for a guy, seeing just the hairstyle is probably Totally different than seeing the whole thing together.

Then again, maybe not. Ask him what he thinks.

I never had to have my dress altered so I don't know. I don't know if I'd want to try the dress on with my hair because ALL my family will be in town and if I tried it on, they would want to see it. And I really don't want THEM to see the FULL effect until they come to see me in the bridal suite. Maybe I could do the trial but then have her take the tiara and veil out. Then my hair would be all up & pretty for the rehearsal, but it wouldn't be the FULL effect. What do you think?

I know my FS doesn't want to see ANYTHING that deals with ME for that day BEFORE that say, so possibly washing your hair after you get pics of the trail maybe?!? I wouldn't want to disappoint my FS so when me and my MOH do my trail, he either won't be here or I'll be @ her house.

The good thing is that the trial is at noon, our nail appointment is at 3:00 and the rehearsal is at 5:00. So sometime in there I should be able to run over to someone's house to wash my hair.

Just tell your stylist that it is making you uneasy and adding steps to your already crammed schedule and offer a day that works best for you. Tell them it is important and I am sure they will work around your request tothe best of their ability. It is YOUR day and you are their CUSTOMER...

Well, the problem is that the salon is in the town where the wedding will be... which is 45 minutes north of here. I was going to try to have the trial this weekend while I was up there anyway, but they were totally booked when I called on Wednesday. The reality is that no matter when I have it, either my FS will see it, or I'll have to wash it. If I drive up there sometime next week to do the trial, I'll still have to come home with the hair. I don't know. :-P

Personally, I do not think that I would do it on the day of the rehearsal. If you do it the week before, you FS is more likely to not remember what it looks like because between the trial and the wedding your hair will be natural. Also, not only is your FS going to see it on the day of the rehearsal, but all of your wedding party, parents, etc. will see it too. IMO I would try make the trip and try to get it done next week. Then when you get home you can play around with it or wash it so FS doesn't know exactly what it will look like.

You can always ask the stylist to pin it up a different way so that you still have a style for the rehearsal but not "THE" style for your big day.

I think that it def wont take away from the "wow" factor....your hair and makeup are simply hair and make up...until you combine it with your dress and veil its just that....dont wear your head piece if you have one and you can maybe even change the style a little by patting it down (to wear it out a bit) or pining it up.....take advantage of getting it done!! That's true. I could always have her do my hair how it'll be done the day of the wedding and then have her change it just a bit so that it's not EXACTLY like it'll be at the wedding. I just don't think that having it done sometime next week is an option. If she was totally booked for Saturday 3 days in advance, I'm doubting that I could get it done sometime next week in that short of notice too.

I would either do what you suggest and wash the hair before he sees it or I would try to schedule it for another day. You may not like the look in your trial and want to make changes.

IMO I would go ahead with the trial.. do it as you will have it done for the wedding then after all that is done have her change it a bit so that it is different for the rehearsal ... come on we don't want to waste being pampered... like if your style is all up ask her to take 1/2 down or visa versa... I understand the whole WOW effect buy why waste the time and money for it.. just tweak it..

I definitely agree with Malinda. Enjoy the pampering and then change it up a bit for the dinner.

My SIL had her trail done the day of the rehearsal, but the stylist took it down and did something else before she left the salon for the dinner. Depending on how you are doing your hair that may work for you.
