Hair Trial Gone Bad!

Wanda, on August 22, 2012 at 12:39 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 35

So I had a hair trial yesterday. See the photos below. The first photo is my hair trial. The 2nd photo is what my hair was supposed to look like. Guh! They dont look anything alike! My fair is fine and about shoulder length. I have been going to this family friend for over 25 years. I feel bad telling her that I hate my hair! But I have to do something else! I grew my hair out for the wedding. I was hoping for a nice up do. My wedding is next weekend, so I am out of time to find a new girl. Plus my hair dresser is a guest at the wedding! I prefer short hair, its what I usually have. So I have come up with the idea of cutting my hair, like the 3rd photo and getting a pearl comb for my hair. Do you ladies think this is dressy enough for a wedding? My FH likes the idea of me doing my own hair and that I would look more like me. Opinions please?

That...is...just....No. You need to tell her, if she didn't want to be told negative stuff, she wouldn't be working on hair.

I don't think your hair is thick enough to achieve the look of your inspiration. Have you considered adding hair pieces?

I dont like the idea of extensions, just not something I want to mess with, I would rather do a style that would work with my hair. My hair has always been short, because that is how I have been able to manage it...

You would need a LOT of hair to achieve what you are looking for. I don't think you need to cut your hair, have you thought of similar styles?

I have always been told (prom, bridesmaid hair, and wedding) that my hairdo would never look *exactly* like the inspiration. Your hair is different from the model's hair, the stylist is different, etc. First of all, I'd be honest with your friend about your thoughts on your hair. If she's a good friend, she won't want you to feel bad about the way your hair looks! If she knows you and your hair well, perhaps ask her to recommend a style she thinks will work on you. Let her try different updos if she's willing to spend a little time on it. You might be surprised by what you like!

I would not cut my hair with only one week to go. What if it somehow got messed up? You can fix an updo, but it's a lot harder to fix a haircut!

Whatever you end up doing, I'm sure you will be GORGEOUS! Just remember to breathe and enjoy your day and be happy that you get to marry the one you love Smiley smile

Hmmm I'm in a very similar situation to you, had my hair short and loved it but grew it long because I wanted a cool updo, I have very thin hair so I knew going in I would need extensions to get what I wanted. I'm thinking about a braid updo as well...

Not sure what to tell you, I've been thinking if I don't like my trial I am totally willing to chop my hair off again as I loved it that way. I just think the veil could be tricky, but if your not wearing one and your hubby is cool with it I say go for it especially if you'll feel more you.

Here's what I think I might try Smiley smile

My hair never looks exactly like the photos I take in, but they are usually much closer. She is older and has been lacking lately. I think it is time to find a new stylist, but with a little more than a week to go, I am in a bind. She never offers suggestions of what would work.

I forgot to mention that I am a migraine suffer, and my head hurt after the trial, I cannot have a migraine for my wedding!

Ah! I dont know what to do! Smiley surprise(

Maybe I should cut it and buy a wig? lol

Before I cut my hair - I would ask the professional - how she thinks my hair should be styled? She what she says. Then go from there.

Ya I totally get you, my FH likes my hair better short but I know I am fussy with cuts and if you did get a crap one the week before your wedding that would suck!

Just looking at the picture again I actually wonder if another stylist could do a better job of that. It doesn't really look like she inlcuded much hair in the french braid at the top of your head I wonder if she could try again and just say you would like more hair in the braid?? Just a thought.

While your choices may be limited given the time you have, I'm sure you can find another good stylist who can fix your hair how you want. Also, just make that person aware of your migrane issues. They will probably need to use less bobby pins, etc. Otherwise, they usually use a ton more than usual to ensure your hair does not move an inch! It really worked for me, but I was sooooo ready to take my hair down at the end of the night and I've never felt that way as a BM.

I dont think she is good at braids. None of my hair had the french braid effect. I would be up for finding a new stylist if I have more time. I know I could get a trial but since my wedding is labor day weekend, lots of people have plans already. My SIL had to look for a new stylist a couple weeks ago and had difficulty because no one is working that weekend.

I am open for suggestions for sure! I would prefer a bottle of hairspray over a million bobby pins! I had my hair up for less than 2 hours last night and i was ready to cry! lol Thankfully my FH helped get the pins out! :o)

Hmmm well does she do okay with hair chops? Maybe with the migraines and all you should just chop it, if you know she does a good job of that? Such a tough call, real bummer you have to think of this this week!!

The thing is with your fine hair you won't get the real French braid effect. I have the same problem. I would have suggested clip in extensions but A, this would probably not exactly help with your migrane, B, it would be difficult to get the top part braided without seeing the extensions.

I would suggest using a thin curling iron and use bobby pins to pin them up in the back. I have very thin hair but that always makes it look really pretty. Smiley smile

    @ Nicole G.

The curls sound nice. I have difficulty getting the curl to stay, whats your secret?

I don't think it's that bad considering your hair is much finer and less thick than the model's. Maybe have her do it again with a larger braid? It looks like she did two smaller ones instead of a large braid. But yeah, if you don't have the same amount and texture of hair your won't come out identical.

Is there a visible changes (or chain type salon) near you? Maybe go in there and see what they can do for you regarding an updo?

I actually chopped my hair off the week before the wedding and my hair stylist (who is also my BFF) told me that she could imitate an updo if that was what I wanted to do. We ended up just using my natural curl which she made prettier and pinned the front back so it wasn't in my face. It was so simple and beautiful.
