Hair & makeup trial same day as engagement photos..?

I would suggest doing your hair trial but after you're satisfied with your wedding look, have your stylist style your hair into something simpler/different. She probably won't mind!

I didn't do it on the same day as I want everything to new on my wedding, but that's totally up to you!!! Good luck

I've heard of people doing this for their bridal portraits since the whole point of bridals is to get photos of you all done up but I think doing your full-blown HMU trial for e-pics would be a little excessive. I'm picturing someone with heavy makeup and a full updo wearing jeans, a sweater, and riding boots.

Maybe have a "trial" of sorts with them to see if you like their work, but have it be a toned-down version of what you may want?

I did exactly what La Grosera mentions. I looked at is as more of a test or trial of skill. I had my hair/MuA (same person) do soft curls for the Epics (I want my hair up on the big day) and more of a natural look for the epic. I plan on going back for the final trial once I decide how/what I want my complete look to look like! My gal charged me $30 and I probably would have just gotten it done somewhere else if she couldn't, and paid more. I think it just put my mind at ease that a) she was timely (she came to the house and will be traveling to the hotel for the wedding) b) professional and c) had skills.

Are you doing really formal E-pics? Have you gotten your hair and makeup done by this person before? I would just be nervous that if I wasn't pleased with my trial, I would be stuck with that look for the E-pics.

My MUA said that for the trial she doesn't do the make up as much as she would for the wedding. Her exact words were something like I don't want you to get the make up fully done and then go run errands and look like you just walked off the runway. Which I agree. I think for the trials it's just so they have an idea of what you're looking for so they can be prepared with colors that look good on you. I'd go for it if I were you.

I would be leery of this, what if you aren't satisfied with the results of your trial?

@Jackie, unfortunately this MUA does trials in studio not on location for trials and it's 2 hours away from where we live (only 1 hr from wedding venue) so going back up there for a second trial would be incredibly tricky and expensive. I just really don't want to pay for a trial and get all done up and then go home afterwards to sit on the couch, I feel like that would be a total waste.

@Katie, no they are not formal and no this is the trial so this would be the first time I've used her services. I can't imagine that she, as a certified professional, would or could do makeup that is worse than my half assed YouTube skills lol. Her photos on Yelp sold me on her skills, even if it's not exactly what I'm envisioning I don't think I would feel hideous to the point where I wouldn't want to do the photo shoot.

@Amanda, that's good to hear. I'll probably ask her if she does this too and if not ask if she can just tone it down a little.

@Kristin, that's what I was thinking! The makeup look I want isn't too crazy (no dark lips or raccoon eyes) but the hair is what I was worried about most, I was thinking of asking her to put it in a very loose side braid after but wasn't sure if she would consider it a "different style" as it would probably only take all of 5 minutes to do. Regardless, the look I'm going for on the wedding day isn't SUPER over the top, just a bit more glam than I normally do. From what I've read on here in previous posts, having more dramatic makeup photographs like you have a lot less makeup on anyway. I think I will be good.

I think it's a good idea if you can swing it. The good thing is with makeup at least you can usually easily alter a few things if you don't like it. Hair would be more difficult to change depending on the style, but it's doable. I'm planning on doing this for mine.
