Hair cost Bride vs Bridesmaids

Robert, on March 22, 2020 at 2:38 PM Posted in Hair and Makeup 0 7

I've seen this question asked before, I want to see if there is a better, updated answer. My fiance is paying $310 for hair and makeup which includes airbrushing ($10) and lashes ($20). The bridesmaids hair and makeup is $160. If you include the value for airbrushing and lashes, the cost for the bride is $120 more. This does not include a trial as she had to pay $125 for a trial and plans to have a 2nd trial for another $125. Does this sound right? Why exactly is the bride so much more expensive? Note: we are in NY is this is relevant.

Usually they spend a lot more time on the bride than bridesmaids and the hair and makeup is more intricate for the bride.

The bride's hair and makeup is usually a lot more time intensive than the bridesmaids. The hairstyle is typically more intricate. I took twice as long on my hair and makeup than my bridesmaids and the mothers. And I am typically someone who doesn't do anything with my hair and make up, so it was not because I was demanding or anything lol. I'm in NJ and those numbers seem pretty accurate.

All eyes (and cameras) are on the bride, so it’s more important that her hair and makeup are flawless. I will be paying $375 for my hair/makeup and my bridesmaids are $185 (I’m covering their hair costs ($85)). My trials are a total of $225. I’m in So Cal, which is a similar cost of living to NY.

Ok, kind of makes sense. I saw this question asked before and the answers seemed to imply this much of a price difference was crazy. But I know the wedding industry is much different today. Its very hard to comprehend this as a male who gets $20 hair cuts.

Unfortunately yes especially if you’re in New York. I’ve been quoted for 175 for just traditional makeup alone. No lashes, no airbrush, and no trial. They are all extra, I live in NC. Break it down, average cost for bridal makeup is $100 plus airbrush $10, plus lashes $20, plus the cost to wash and set her hair that day anywhere from $30-40, plus if she is getting an updo $120. So yeah I know it’s a lot. But she is going to take your breathe away! Trust me so worth it!

So for reference I’m in Philly and this is what I’m paying for both hair and makeup:
Moms: $80 each (simple hair and makeup)
Bridesmaids: $135 each (any hairstyle, false lashes, airbrush)Bride: $190 + $100 trial (any hairstyle, false lashes, airbrush)

Usually the bride's hair and makeup is a bit more expensive. Salons tend to offer their more experienced stylists to the brides, use more product and bobby pins, and are willing to spend more time on the bride. Even with that, those prices are a bit ridiculous if you ask me! For that price the salon should have included a hair trial, but I know that varies depending on the salon.
