Hair and make up - who pays

Rachael, on January 13, 2018 at 10:45 AM

This may be a silly question but I don’t want to be rude if I’m totally off the mark. For a professional doing the hair and make up for my bridesmaids do they pay for their services or do I pay for it?

I am not requiring them to do hair or makeup.. 2 out of 4 are actually really good with their own makeup. I have been looking around for a cheaper HMUA so that way if my girls want to utilize they can, but that's because all my girls are coming in from out of state.

I am only having one bridesmaid (my sister) and I just asked if she wanted to get it done. I think I will pay some still but she is paying a majority.

If you’re not requiring it, then you don’t have to pay and you can give the girls the option to pay for themselves. My BMs are very comfortable doing their own make up, so I decided to pay for just their hair to get done.

Another friend of mine is not requiring hair and make up for her wedding, but if we choose to have her hmua do them, she’s paying a third of the cost.

My hair and mua is charging $50 for their hair and make up together and she’s damn good at what she does. They are paying for it themselves and so far I haven’t gotten any complaints. They’re also getting the same style.

You certainly do not have to. Two of my BMs are in college and I know that even with the option they wouldn’t want to pay for it, so I offered to pay for half for each girl (either hair or makeup, and they pay the other half if they want both. Hair or makeup is same place with who I’m using). FSIL opted for her own lady, I think if you want to give them the option then they can decide. Some people don’t like getting it done and would rather do it themselves even if they can afford it

We are doing a MAU for myself and bridesmaids but not hair. They can do what they want with hair. I'm also not requiring a special look but got a really good deal and figured its a way we can all get "pampered".

I am paying for everyone’s hair and makeup. I am making it part of their gift from me. I just think it’s part of the experience and i am really excited to get ready with everyone.

So everyone has a different situation but I knew that I wanted the girls hair done, so I factored paying for that into the budget. I don’t believe I should require something and then make them pay, so I am paying and they are tipping. As for makeup I left it as optional but all of my bridesmaids opted in since their hair was already being paid for. So it worked out well and will be a fun day of pampering! I find if you have to choose one or the other I’d go with hair, girls have a harder time with hair, especially updos...

I gave my girls the option, they are paying for it themselves. Although I found a very inexpensive makeup artist who does great work so I'm thinking of paying for everyone's makeup

It depends on you and your budget. Normally, if you're requiring them to have a certain look, for hair and make-up, then you would pay for it. However, if you're not then you could obtain the prices for hair and make-up, and give them the option to pay for it.

I'm paying for their hair and make-up, it's my way of saying thank you for taking the time to be my side and for the expenses they've had.

I told my bridesmaids they can do as they please. Go to a salon or do their own. Most of them are pretty talented with their own hair and makeup, so I'm not worried. I also gave them the option to come get their hair done with me at the salon I choose. I have seven bridesmaids, so I can't afford to pay for all their hair and makeup. I've been in 4 or 5 weddings and I've always had to pay for my own hair.

I gave my girls the option to do it themselves, or have it professionally done at their expense, and I did not care either way which they chose. All 5 chose to have pro hair done, and 4 of 5 chose to have pro makeup done, with the 5th doing her own makeup. They all paid for themselves, which is perfectly acceptable when you're not requiring the use of a pro. If you don't require it, and they choose to have it done, they pay. If you require it, you pay.

I'm paying for hair and makeup for my 9 bridesmaids. But I've been in two weddings, neither times was it paid for. We had the option to do it ourselves or get it done, both times it was $150 for both. So it just depends! You could always pay for one service and not the other?

I cannot afford to pay for all of my BMs hair and makeup, so I'm not requiring it, so I told them they can do whatever they wish!

Tell your mom you really only need to pay for them if you're requiring a certain look. If not, then it's perfectly fine for them to do their own!

If it is a requirement then you should pay for it. If you are giving them the option then they should pay. For my wedding it was an option, but I told them I would pay half of their makeup if the decided, but hair was fulling on them.

I gave my girls the option to do it themselves, or have it professionally done at their expense. I have let the girls know that the team that I hired to come to the hotel to do my hair and makeup is also available for them to use if they would like. Out of my 6 BMs 4 have chosen to use them as well as the MOB and my FMIL.
