Hair and make up - who pays

Rachael, on January 13, 2018 at 10:45 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 77
This may be a silly question but I don’t want to be rude if I’m totally off the mark. For a professional doing the hair and make up for my bridesmaids do they pay for their services or do I pay for it?

I've heard of the bridesmaids paying, but I'm completely unsure. I will probably find someone who can give me a group discount and just pay for it so my girls aren't stressing about paying.

If you require it, you pay for it.

If you are requiring all the girls to have it done, you pay. If it’s an option they can chose to have, they pay. I am paying my MOH and the rest have chosen to do it but it was not something they had to have.

Hair and makeup should not be required. If you want their hair done and makeup you pay for it. For example, I am paying for the girls hair, not their makeup. If they want their makeup done they can pay for it.

They are paying for their hair and makeup, I will just be putting the deposit down which knocks a few dollars off. Where I’m from anytime we’re in a wedding we don’t expect the bride to pay for things, it nice but it’s not expected because we don’t mind.. I bought both MOHs dresses and all BP jewelry. I also have gifts for them on the day of.

If you are requiring professional services you pay, if it is optional they can choose to pay for it or do their own.

I have been in many weddings and a bride has never paid for my hair or makeup. Makeup has never been required at a single wedding I've been in, hair generally was. Or maybe I just never thought to ask the bride if hair was required or not and assumed it was. Either way, every wedding I've been in all of the girls had their hair done and paid for it themselves.

I’m paying for my two BM as their gift. They both love that sort of thing and I know well enjoy the morning of pampering before the wedding!

If you want the same hairstyle then you should pay. I am not requiring my ladies to have their hair done a specific way, but I am paying for their hair and makeup.

Yeah that was hard. I left it up to them if they wanted to get it done professionally and if they did they had to pay.

I’m not requiring it but I’m paying for hair and makeup. They can decline if they don’t want it. I was a BM once where the bride just let us know how much her stylist was if we chose to get our hair done so it was clear we would be paying for it.

I'll be paying for my bridal party but only one is required to have her hair done because she's 12 and I don't like the way she prefers to wear her hair.

I believe FutureMrs.V is right but I’m in a wedding this spring where the bride is making us get our HMU done and wants us to pay.
