Guests Beach Wedding Attire

Kristin, on February 10, 2017 at 9:11 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 8

I've sent my STD's since we are having a DW in Key West. I've had a couple friends ask me the attire and I have absolutely no idea how to explain it to them! Our ceremony is on a beach of sorts; there's no walk into the water aspect. There's a sea wall but it's a little sandy. The reception is in this awesome solid brick fort so not on the beach. I want guests to be like business casual but comfortable since it is going to be 80 degrees. I don't want guests showing up in shorts as I'd like to keep some formality about it. The groom is most likely wearing navy dress pants, dress shoes, white button up shirt and possibly a tie. No suit jacket.

Do you think it's best to say business casual? Or am I overthinking this and people will just wear what they want?

You're over thinking it. Most adults know how to dress for a wedding. If someone asks, you can tell them it's on the beach and maybe describe what the groom is wearing. They should be able to figure out the formality from there. ETA: fixed the form to you're. Haven't finished my coffee yet

I think you've described what the attire should be fairly well, just condense your answer for those who ask! I respond with "it's dressy casual! There's a hard floor so you won't be walking on sand, and the guys aren't wearing jackets!" That will give people who ask a good idea and a point of reference on formality.

When people ask I'd go with dressy casual over business casual. When I think dressy casual, I think a formal sundress and wedges. When I think business casual, I think of my pencil skirts and work blouses. You could also just say "a cute dress and heels" if a girl asked and "oh trousers of any type and a button-up or something along those lines" if a guy asked.

Don't worry about it. I have had family ask the same thing about our DW. I've just been telling them that it will be an an outdoor ceremony on the beach with a reception on an outdoor patio so to keep the weather in mind and wear what they are comfortable with. Most people should know how to dress themselves appropriately.

I think describing the groom's outfit will give them the best idea of what to wear. I would probably tell them to wear slacks and boat shoes for men. Short dresses for women with sandals.

The term would be "smart casual," which is slacks and a button-front, sometimes a jacket, for the men and a nice skirt or dress (not necessarily a formal "cocktail" dress) for the women. You can also say beach semi-formal.

Our ceremony and reception are literally in the sand. In casual conversation with all my guests I have been slipping that it will be a simple beach wedding and what my FH plans to wear. Also that I can't wait to get married barefoot Smiley smile toes in the sand
