Guest List!!!

Veronica, on July 3, 2020 at 3:48 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 9
Due to COVID our venue/CA guidelines is only allowing a guest list of 50 people. Having to go from 200 wedding guest list to 50 has been so stressful! What is the best way to let family and friends know they may not be invited????

Just let them know due to the state guidelines in the case of the Corona virus, you are forced to decrease your guest count. Then, if you like, you can add whatever else to make it sound more personable.

Here is a website that has a good template for a letter/email to send to your guests to uninvite them due to COVID:

I saw a few templates on this website due to COVID 19. We had to drop our guest list from 125 to 75 also, so I definitely feel your pain. We still trying to go thru the guest list and figure out who will get an invite.

I was told we should call each guest that can no longer attend rather than just sending a letter (even though that’s so much easier!). Parents of the bride and groom can help in making these phone calls as there are so many! Ugh not looking forward to this as we will be doing the same 😔

I am currently going through this as well! My fiance and I decided that we'll have our wedding with our closest family and friends as the 50 guests, and then we'll have separate celebrations with other groups (i.e. co-workers, more distant relatives, etc.) We send out separate emails to the different events explaining that we want to see everyone from our original guest list of 130, but due to the restrictions, we can only have our closest relations at the big event. So far, everyone has been very understanding and has only wished us well. I think most people will want only the best for you! Otherwise, my soon-to-be father-in-law said that you should think about it from their perspective: if they were in your situation, would you be on their list of 50, and would you mind not being invited?

Hi Veronica! Have you considered streaming your ceremony for the rest of your guests? You could even do a quick virtual cheers with them on zoom or a google hangout! I feel like offering those virtual substitutes softens the blow a little bit! But in general I think everyone will be really understanding of your situation.

Yes my fiance and I have discussed this! That was the best option we felt, even when some loved ones cant be there physically they can still somehow be there in a way.
