Hello ladies! What is the proper etiquette for inviting co-workers? FH has been told you are supposed to invite your boss but I was under the impression if you invite one co worker it spirals into inviting your whole department. Did you all invite co workers? How did you narrow it down? We have just been invited to his co worker's wedding which doesn't make it any easier...

I am inviting the coworkers with whom I am actually friends with and I know if for some reason I stopped working at my current job we would still keep in contact with each other but I dont think it should be an obligation

Sadly I invited my boss... Well really she invited herself. I didn't respond and she mentioned it again weeks later. I am trying to promote and it's her sign off if I get it or not and its after the wedding when I'm going out for new position....and she is for sure the type of person that would hold a grudge.

I'm inviting 5 coworkers that I work with closely, but I am not inviting my boss. My FH is not inviting any coworkers. I think it depends on your relationship with your coworkers.

FH wants to invite his bosses. I said no because we are over the comfortable stage of invites.

I am inviting 2 of my bosses (my direct boss, and the one who vouched for me to get the HUGE promotion I got a year and a half ago). I manage a shop, and I have a close relationship with all of my staff. We cannot invite everyone or I would have to close up shop for the weekend! We're inviting one couple FH is close with, and having a party for everyone else when we get back.

There are 12 people in my department and there are 2 sets of married couples within that. We're inviting 'the girls' and their husbands & my boss with his wife. so a total of 10 work people for me.

FH is the president of his small company so we can't get away with not inviting them. 12 people from his work.

one of the girls I work with got married in August and didn't invited everyone, which helped me with my decision as well. at least I knew it wasn't expected to have the whole department.

ETA: I didn't answer your question! narrow it down just like any other group you consider for the guest list. also think about if there is any way that your job could be impacted by their attendance or something they might see at the wedding, like drunk uncle joe as another posted wrote!

I am not inviting any. I work in an office of about 26 people. There are a few I'm very close with but I'd feel bad picking and choosing who gets invited.

I'm inviting the 4 lovely ladies (and their spouses) that I eat lunch with everyday. We hang out outside of work and pretty close. That's the limit on that though.

I'm having trouble with this too. I've only been at my current job for 8 months, and it's a pretty small office - only 50 people in the whole office, 65 total including around the country. I am close with 3 of the 5 people in our department (the other two are this old, evil woman and our boss) so I am debating whether or not to invite the three of them and their SO's - they're very nice and we get lunch together and talk about our lives/non work stuff, I definitely like them but at the same time I wouldn't be devastated if they didn't come...I don't know, I'm still undecided.

I invite my co-workers, but I work in a smaller department and am very close to all of my coworkers. I don't think there's any requirement to invite your entire office - that would be impossible in some people's cases. If you wouldn't hang out with them outside of work, then I wouldn't invite them.

@Julie - same situation. Law firm of 7, but I did invite only 3. My boss - we hang out outside of work, and he and FH have went out for happy hour a few times - and two other coworkers, but not the others. No awkwardness (at least not yet).

I work at a credit union and I invited my dept. But that is only because I am good friends with everyone in my dept. We hang out outside of work and I wouldn't feel weird if they showed. Other than that nobody else from work got invited!

ETA: a guy from work just got married jan 30th and only invited certain people as well so that made it easy Smiley smile

I work in a small office and have been here over a decade. I invited my bosses (2), my department and one other person. FH isn't inviting anyone from his job, but I'm closer to people at mine.
