Guest Dress...too White?

Hey Ya'll

I had mentioned before my husband and I are going to a good friend's wedding next weekend and I ordered a dress off Poshmark since they are generally quicker with shipping then most websites. Well, of course this time the dress isn't even remotely close to described. I ordered a dark grey and I got a pale blush dress. Is it too close to white to wear as a guest? I'm nervous because it's outdoors and I have darker skin. I don't want the color of the dress to get blown out in pictures and look like I'm the jerk who thought it'd be fun to wear a long white dress. I don't want to bother the bride since they're on a super crunched timeline and my stupid questions are the last thing they need. Thoughts?

There isn’t a bridal party so I should be fine on that front.

They got engaged last weekend and are getting married next week. She’s currently out of her mind coordinating everything plus travel and accommodation for her family that are out of the country while working full time and finishing some Summer II grad school courses. Im nervous it’ll put her over the edge 😬

Yeah, I sell and buy on there and it's not like eBay where the customer is always right and can throw a tantrum. With poshmark, the customer can literally only return items if they aren't as described. They don't care if it doesn't fit you or you hate it.

I personally don't think it looks too white. I know you don't want to stress her out any further by asking her opinion, but I feel like that would be the best route just for your own reassurance.

I just started buying and selling. Do you know how much this has changed my life knowing this?! Like I have probably 6 pieces in my closet that came slightly damaged or missing items (like dresses without belts, coats missing buttons).

    Youre the best! 🙌🏽

The original picture you posted looks pink, but the second one looks yellow. You have the best idea of what it actually looks like. If you’re going to be self conscious about it, I would go with a different dress.

I knowwwww. This is my issues. I’ve been spending a lot of time in the sun (not practicing safe-sun 😵). My weird skin and the lighting in my bathroom blows out the color weird.

I do feel self-conscious so I think we’ll be switching it up. Thanks for your comment ❤️

This is absolutely crazy that this could be offensive. I feel if a bride has an issue with others wearing colors close to white it’s an insecurity issue. I seen plenty beautiful weddings when everyone wore white and the bride still stood out and was beautiful. In conclusion, wear the dress. Lol

Looks yellow to me as well. I think you are fine and she will appreciate you dressing up. Maybe you can send the bride a pick and just ask her if she thinks it’s inappropriate. I’m sure just showing her that respect will be appreciated and she will tell you to wear it.

Here is something to think about, is she definitely wearing white? I couldn't wear white for my first wedding so I was handed an "ivory" dress that looked pretty similar to the color in the picture of you wearing the dress. My former BIL's girlfriend at the time showed up in a dress of the same color, and a similar style. I think the dress is so pretty on you but maybe safer is better.

I usually wear like a blue, green or purple dress to a wedding though.

Trust your gut dear...…1. it's not what you ordered-send it back...... 2. you're doubting that it's appropriate to the point of feeling self-conscious..... 3. If your man and the Bride's man are "like brothers"--out of respect for that relationship don't risk upsetting your soon to be "like sister in law" haha ;o) 5, 10, 15 years down the road you'll be glad you did your part to give her, her best day possible!!

I think it looks a little too ivory in the pic of you wearing it.

In my opinion. If she has a good photographer then you won't look like you're wearing white. I wouldn't fret to much over it. Maybe add a little jacket cover thingy to it? Have you sent it to the bride and asked her?

Oh no. Definitely change your dress. It could pass for ivory in certain lighting and the cut looks like a summer wedding dress. It’s cute and you could wear it somewhere else but do not risk it.
