guest check in list?

Future Mrs. Loera, on November 3, 2011 at 1:43 PM Posted in Planning 0 15

I am planning to have someone at the door with the list of all guest and have them check in to make sure no person can come in thats not invited.

But does that seem out of place even if they rsvp'ed? or can i just do that to make sure who was there?

How many guests are you having? I could see a checklist taking a super long time (plus annoying for your guests, who just want to set down their things and get something cold to drink).

I wanted to do that too but the idea was nixed - I was told it would offend people too much. Let me know how well your "bouncers" work. Smiley smile

If you have assigned tables, and everyone has an escort card telling them what table they will be sitting at, then you don't need a checklist. If they didn't rsvp, you don't make an escort card for them. No escort card, no seat at a table. No seat, no meal reserved for them.

Do you expect lots of uninvited guests?

It wouldn't take any longer than guests looking for place cards. Just make sure the guest list is in alphabetical order to find names quick.

I went to a wedding where they had a check list, but they had about 5 people doing checks so it wasn't just one person. In the end, they stopped the crashers and the crazy ex girlfriend who actually showed up.

I've attended a wedding that had a bouncer at the door with a guest list and it was kind of fun. Made us feel as if we were VIP at a club or something. It was especially funny when he actually turned people away.

I think it's a great idea when you have a lot of guests. I was debating on it myself.

Our venue does that normally since its an aquarium in a busy area. I have place cards for seating, but when the guest arrives, they are basically just going to tell the person at the door their name so its quick and easy

I'm doing what Hayley just said. I went to a frien's wedding in December, they invited 400 people, only about 200 RSVPd, but over 400 people showed up, they had 2 people at the door checking people in, it got so out of hand, that the two people had to leave the door and let everybody in. The people who didn't rsvp and showed up, were cursing at them for not finding their names and wanted to fight.

They had to bring tables from the back to seat these people, and there were no table cloth, it wasn't my wedding, but I cried that night, I was more upset than the bride.

It really doesn't sound bad. My ushers will be at the door with a list as well. Escort cards are nice but I think that will take so much time and organization.

Im doing assigned seating, so if they dont have a seat they dont have a meal. if for some reason someone decides not to show up and theres an extra seat then i really dont care if they sit in that seat! i already paid for the meal at that point anyways..

I've never seen this happen in over 600 weddings so far...nor have I seen anyone who had a problem with crashers.
