Groupons! Laser hair removal? A little TMI?

Sumer, on May 24, 2013 at 4:25 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 12

So, I know almost all brides monitor groupons, possibly livingsocial and sniqueaway for deals. We all must see those deals constantly for laser hair removal. I'm curious if anyone has picked one up.

There are so many things that would be amazing to get done. Imagine never having to shave your legs, your underarms, getting a Brazilian done and never having to shave again! Has anyone budgeted for this, or started in on some laser treatments? I'm trying to budget them in, but I'm curious if anyone's done it, how well it works, and how far out you should plan it. The groupons I always see are 6 treatments, and they recommend I believe 6 weeks apart. The savings are astronomical.

Also, I personally had to have a common surgical procedure recently because I had infected sweat glands under my armpits. Main contributions to infection include #1 shaving, and #2 antiperspirant deodorants. Laser (or going hairy) is a recommendation for all women.

What do our brides think?

Yep! I got my underarms and bikini line done for $198 (two $99 Groupons) and I'm very happy with the results. My bikini line is pretty damn bare (maybe some super fine baby hairs that I can barely see) and my underarms are good too. I still have growth, but it's super fine hair that I can shave easily without having a five o'clock underarm shadow the next day, and it takes almost a week for it to start growing back in at all.

I had the 6 treatments, I could never do a full Brazilian (the laser hurts and I'm not that great with pain) but I did consider it. As long as you do your research on the company offering the Groupon, I say go for it!

My last treatment for my underarms is in two weeks. I was able to see results after one treatment, however it appears my hair loss will not be 100%, but considering I have black underarm hair, overall, I have to say it was worth it! I shaved every day before the procedure and because my hair is so dark, my underarms had a 'shadow' look to them because of the roots under my skin. Now since the hair is minimal my pits look normal lol! The pain with the laser was very, very minimal, but I also handle pain very, very well lol.

I say give it a shot!

Hmm...for those who say the laser hurts...anyone able to compare it to waxing? LOL. 6 treatments in a lifetime vs. waxing every 6 weeks or so for your whole life...hmm....

To me (and this can obviously be different for all), it feel like a teeny, tiny needle jabbing you real quick. That said, she'd do one underarm, by the time she was done with the other underarm, the first didn't hurt anymore, by the time she was done with one side of the bikini, the other underarm didn't hurt anymore. It passed fairly quickly but was unpleasant in the moment.

And remember that laser isn't 100% permanent -- hormone changes can cause new/different hair growth, but it should at least dramatically reduce the hair growth to much more manageable levels (like the baby underarm hair that Ann and I both mentioned.)

I just started it for my underarms for the wedding. It's been a week and a half after the first session and I noticed that I didn't have to shave this morning!!! First time ever.

I've had it done for my chin, upper lip and neck in the past and half has grown back.

I would love to do Brazilian!

It hurts much, much less than waxing.

The first session didn't hurt at all, but they gradually amp up the laser power...I guess thats how to explain it lol...Anyway, the most pain feels like a pinch or getting a shot.

The pain depends on the type of laser machine. My first experience with the face I had the one that zaps you. This time around I have one that uses heat. When it gets too hot she pulls away for a moment. No problem with pain!!

I got a full brazilian done with the laser hair removal. I have the optimal skin type for laser (dark hair, light skin) depending on your skin type results will vary. It seemed to be working at first I even purchased 3 extra sessions to get the little bit left.

A few months later my hair started coming back. Yes, it was lighter and thinner but it is still back.

A big thing to consider (that I didn't) when buying a groupon is what kind of laser they use. The quality of the laser will effect your results. I have found that most of the groupon places offering laser hair removal use cheap lasers and inexperienced technicians.

Would I do it again? Yes, but I hate the thought of having to do it once more after all I spent.

I never did the laser. I have done electrolysis. The thing he really wanted me to know what it would take some time for all the hair to go away. You have thousands of follicles and not all the hair grows at once. So when you remove everything currently growing, it doesn't mean that he got every hair that could grow. It worked really well for me. I don't know if the laser gets anything below the skin that isn't growing, but it would be a good question to ask if you are considering it.

I've bought two different groupons for two different places. The second place's laser works much better on me. I researched both places before I brought the groupon. So happy I had it done though.

Reading through, I think it has to be said again that it's not totally permanent. I had lip and chin done two years ago and I am starting treatments again for the same area again in preparation for the wedding. A lot of it has started growing back.

Reminder too that the hair needs to be dark.

As someone else mentioned too, you'll get different results with different lasers. The first time I tried it, the results were not great. I went some place else later after buying a Living Social deal and had better results.

I find just doing my lip and chin (considered 2 separate areas when buying Groupons--read what area or areas are included!!!) to be pretty expensive so I've never been tempted to do more. But then again, I am also doing dermal fillers and dysport to fill in creases/lines so I need to save $$ for that and suck it up and keep shaving my pits, legs, and bikini area...
