Groomsmen gifts that aren't flasks?

Brittany, on August 21, 2015 at 1:16 PM Posted in Planning 0 31

I could use some advice for gifts for the guys. These would be for the groomsmen and man of honor.

It seems that if you look for gifts online, they are all either flasks/drinking glasses, cuff links, wallets, or watches. Anyone have different ideas from this?

    Knives.

DH got a weird wooden beer stein. It's.... I think it's expensive, and it's quite unusable. lol.

I know KM did custom painted coolers for the guys.

    What do they like?

FH wants to get knives for his groomsmen. I've also seen personalized shaving kits/toiletries bags

Knives aren't a bad idea. I mean, I carry a huge one myself, lol.

Yep. GM gifts are hard. My FH ended up getting them all socks with their nicknames printed on them, decanters with their favorite booze, and he got his Best Man a cutting board with his last name on it (he's the cook of the family).

All I know is it was MUCH easier getting stuff for the girls! The marketing world must think guys just want to get drunk, light shit on fire, wear suits, and always have no idea what time it is.

Knives are great. Just make sure they aren't flying.

Beard kits are cool too. I discovered them from here. My BM her DH is a GM & he has a beard so we got one of those for him.

Just get good knives, the knives they use on etsy that they sell as groomsman gifts with the engraving are almost breakable. DH also got one of those... it sits totally unused. We got awesome Kershaw swing blades for $40/each! Every time one of the guys comes over they have it on them, it's sweet Smiley smile

That seemed really accurate to me! Smiley winking

We did something different for each guy, because they are very different. The idea to buy the same thing for them all isn't tradition, just convenience... Also depends on how much you want to spend.

    - personalized pils glasses from Waterford for co-Best Man, his brother

    - personalized leather-handled rock hammer for groomsman who is a geologist

    - funky Thom Brown watch for co-Best Man and BFF, who prides himself on having 'unique' accessories

We also gave each guy a bottle of a Nautica fragrance we thought they would all like - they were $15 on sale at TJMaxx, and the guys all loved it and wear it regularly. Since scent memory is the strongest memory, the other nice thing about having a fragrance is they will always associate the smell with the special day Smiley smile

ETA: Cassie/M - yeah, that's pretty accurate LOL! Love that.

Also, just to be clear - I'm not critical of giving all the same thing, just saying we shouldn't feel obligated to do that because it's not a faux pas to give different items to each.

It depends if the groomsmen are weirdos, but my FH's are and he got them all a weird shirt from themountain.com and a comic book.

Yep...I did the coolers, which took a lot of time and I don't recommend to anyone without a year to work on them and have done it before.

Yeti just came out with travel mugs that I think are really neat, but at $25-$30 a piece, are a little pricey, but most guys know the Yeti brand and the mug is kind of amazing. You can buy each of them one and then personalize them with a decal of something they are interested in (like Ducks Unlimited, fishing, sports, whatever).

FH did personalized traveling Dopp kits (toiletry bags) and cuff links. But the cuff links are more for the wedding because they're all different Star Wars ones to go with our theme, that's why we got the bags too.

What about really good meat, like steaks and stuff? Or my coworker wanted to do personalized bobble heads. H got his BM a bottle opener made out of a shotgun shell, and bought him his suit.

I was going to say pocket knife. My husband always has a swiss army knife with him, and so he got similar swiss army knives for his groomsmen with "Brothers in Arms" engraved on it.

FH has gotten a Swiss army knife in the past, which he loved. He was thinking of doing a monogrammed rocks glass with fifth of their favorite liquor.

We got Swiss army knives for both our dude of honor and our maid of honor. The dude of honor was so happy with his, we had a hard time getting him to socialize at the reception, he was so busy playing with it.

Ours both like the occasional cigar so we got them personalized cigar humidors. They are made of cedar and smell so. Good.
