Groomsman broke his foot! What to do?

Lyndsey, on April 27, 2012 at 3:20 PM Posted in Planning 0 7

So, we have three groomsmen and three bridesmaids. Our best man was supposed to stand with the FH the entire time, so my maid of honor was going to walk alone and then the other four would walk in pairs. Well, one of our groomsmen broke his foot today. He says he'll still do it, but he'll be on crutches. I don't know what I should do.

I was thinking about doing it this way: Have the one with the broken foot standing at the altar with the FH, then have the MOH walk alone as planned, then put the best man with my bridesmaid who happens to be his wife, then the other two. The best man would stand between the one with the broken foot and the FH and walk with the maid of honor during the recessional. This would put the one with the broken food walking with the best man's wife, but at least the MOH and best man will walk back together as planned.

I could also just let the one with the broken foot walk as planned, but I think it would look odd and they couldn't walk arm-in-arm. Any ideas?

If your best man is standing next to your FH, maybe just have all the guys wait at the alter? Its pretty common for the girls to walk down alone.

You could also ask the groomsman what he feels comfortable doing.

Ditto to both suggestions above. Why not just have them all wait at the alter? I dont think its anything to stress about! I probably wouldnt let him walk period if he is using crutches. It wouldnt be good for his foot and would just be a distraction/mood breaker to see "hop along cassidy" going up the aisle Smiley laugh

You could always have 2 BM double up with a groomsmen in the middle too if you really want them to walk down and back together.

Both weddings I've been in as a BM, I walked down the aisle by myself and the GM were already standing at the altar. Keli is right. It is really common.

Ask him if he's okay walking down the aisle..if she says yes, let him walk. He doesn't have to be holding onto the bm.

or have him stand up there, and put him at the end of the line...have her walk down alone last.

I would have him check with his doctor and see if he couldn't get a walking boot for that little portion of the ceremony - depending on the kind of break he has. You never know maybe the doc will let him if he stays off of it between now and then.

If he wants to walk--let him. My sister/MOH broke her leg and she asked to go ahead of the group (prior to guests arriving) and wait since she was worried she'd trip with the crutches.

I say let him do whatever makes him comfortable and what is SAFE for his broken foot.
