Groomsmaid? GroomsLady?

Bethany, on July 20, 2010 at 8:42 AM Posted in Planning 0 23

My FH has a close friend from high school, who happens to be a girl... He wanted her involved in the wedding and I really like her to sooo I said of course, thinking he meant she would read a bible verse, do guest book or something. But he asked her to be a groomsman or groomsmaid?

I'm a little uncomfortable with it but its his wedding too and its important to him. So I am working on being completely ok with it haha.

But what should we call her in the program? Should she just wear a black dress? Has anyone seen this or is anyone else doing this?

My FH's sister is in the wedding party, standing up with him and his brothers. She is just wearing a dress in the wedding colors. And my brother is standing up on my side and he is wearing a suit and tie that matches the groomsmen.

Can't you just make her a bridesmaid?

We actually completed a wedding not too long ago with a "groomsmaid" -- she wore the same dress as the bridesmaids, except in black and stood with the groomsmen. It actually looks great -- not awkward or weird at all!

My husband and I did this in our wedding, because his best friend is a female. In the program we called her a "groomswoman" and she wore a floor length black dress. It ended up working out really well, and everyone thought it was a neat idea. It also meant alot to him to have her standing with his "boys".

We have a MoH, three BridesMen, two best men, a groomsman, and a GroomsMaid in our wedding. lol!

As for her attire? Our girls are both going to be wearing dresses, all the men tuxes... but if you want her in something specifically "Groom-ish" why don't you have her wear a Church Suit? They're classy and stylish and have both a skirt and a jacket.

Groomsmaid checking in! I'm in my friend's wedding and his best gal pal in the US (He's from Norway). I haven't talked to him yet about what I'm wearing but he's talked to it with his FW and she's completely fine with it. She understands how important it is for him to have his friends (from around the world) with him on their special day.

I think it's great. my brother is my 'man of honor'...times are a changin...you just want the people who mean the most to you up there with you, gender need not apply in my book.

I have a bridesman, and my future husband has a groomsmaid. I think we'll just have the girls in the same dress and the guys in the same stuff. My bridesman is one of my best friends and has been there for me, so he's on my side. And the same goes for my fiance's groomsmaid. Smiley smile

We're thinking about have a mutual friend of both FH and mine be a gw. If we do that we will find a prom dress with a empire waist, white bust, and long floor length black skirt. then put a sash of the BM's dress fabric on it. for the ceremony she will wear a cute black jacket to sort of mimic a tux.

Theres nothing wrong with her standing on his side in a nice dress as a grooms' maid. I am having an usherette & thats when I learned of the groom's maid & bride's man. I think its awesome. LOL. And you would list her as groomsmaid, or perhaps groom's maid. I am not sure of the proper grammatical way of phrasing it to be honest.

We are having a groomswoman but I never imagined her in a dress and neither did he! We are going to have her wear a suit just like the other groomsman. I just can't see her in dress, it would look to weird to me to see a dress on his side!

FH has two best friends. One is his Best Man and the other we just made a Bridesmaid. She was SO excited to not have to stand with all the boys! lol She's generally a pretty big tom boy so I think she's excited to get all dressy and be on my side with all the girls Smiley smile
