Grooms clothes- rent or buy?

Stephanie , on June 4, 2016 at 11:37 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 22

Did/is everyone renting the men's clothes or did you buy? Could you tell me how much you spent and where? We're trying to find the most cost effective way to get a suit with no jacket (so pants, shirt, tie and vest) for four. Thanks for your help!

If you're not doing a jacket, you could basically go ANYWHERE!!!

We didn't rent. Our groomsmen just wore black suits they already owned. We gifted them matching ties to wear.

My husband purchased a nice, new black suit from the DKNY outlet. It was a great price for a really lovely suit!! It was about $250 I think. We felt that was better than spending money on something for one day. He can keep this forever and get more use out of it. I got his dress shirt from JC Penney. I forget how much, but it was a great price. He wore a plum purple shirt with a silver tie that we also got at DKNY. The GM's ties were from Kohl's!

If you;'re not doing a jacket, I would definitely buy. There are tons of places to buy nice dress pants and shirts!!! If you shop right, it could be the same price as renting, and then the guys can keep them and wear again. I think thats the best way Smiley smile Watch for sales. We purchased the GM's ties when they were buy 1 get 1 half off. Smiley winking

We rented at Men's Wearhouse. He actually got his for free because with 5 rentals from the wedding the groom gets his for free.

We bought fh a new suit. I would buy if you just want the pants and vest parts of the suits. That way the guys can buy the jacket if they wanted.

We waited for the buy one get one sale at men's wear house got 2 suits (3 peice) - 2 shirts - 2 sets of suspenders and 2 pairs of converse patent leather shoes for less than 1k with alterations

We are renting from Men's Wearhouse. The total is $106. We had a $40 off coupon for each rental and the groom had the option of getting his rental free or a new suit so we are paying for the rental and he is getting a new suit to keep.

We are renting from MW. We aren't renting ties or shoes though, it's the same price to buy our own and then we can keep them. And shoe rental = ew

We rented tuxes at Men's Warehouse and got $40 off all the tuxes in the BP. FH got a Vera Wang tux and the GM got a Joseph Abboud tux...it was $174 without shoes (shoes would've added another $30).

ETA: FH wanted to buy his suit but renting was a much more economical decision...

We bought, but that's because FH already had khaki pants. We got him a white dress shirt and a khaki vest. We got the shirt at Nordstrom Rack and the vest at Macy's. I ended up getting bowties and suspenders for the BM and we just told him khaki pants and a white shirt. It worked out for us since we are going casual and khaki pants and a white shirt are things a guy is likely to own.

We are just renting pants from MW. $35/pair. We only need two adults, one teen, & one child, so we didn't qualify for any deals. I bought tie & suspenders from Tie Mart. We are buying the white shirts, probably from Penney's.

We just bought a suit today. JCP is having a 50% off sale. I got crazy coupons for using my credit card, so we're going back tomorrow to buy another one. Suit and shirt for $100.

Buying at DXL, Rochester's, or MW.

We're are planning on getting a custom suit (jacket and pants) with a custom dress shirt that FH can use for 5-10 years. Plus tie and pocket square. Budget is $1000.

(I use to sell men's suiting as a retail clothing store manager. This is actually pretty low for custom.)

My fiance was in a wedding where they had him purchase a suit. It was nice and I was glad he had one afterwards, but if your groomsmen don't have a lot of money to spend, try and find something not too expensive/on sale or something they already have if possible.

We're buying and also having the groomsmen buy because we're doing suits and every guy should have a good suit! We're doing grey suits. If you're not doing a jacket you could probably go to a department store

FH is purchasing a suit, partially because he has wanted to get a new one for a while. Groomsmen are wearing suits they already own.

FH is getting his suit custom made and so will his groomsmen. In NY there are tons of these stores where you pick everything including buttons and they make it for you. A well reputed company here will do it for a few hundred. He paid $210 for a tux rental at MW and for $100 more he gets to keep everything and get use of it for more than one day.

With what you need, you can go pretty much everywhere and won't need to rent. Eliminating the jacket opens up a lot of options to buy for cheap(er).
