Groom's Cake - Yay or Nay?

Oceankissed, on June 7, 2017 at 11:57 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 65

And if so, RD or reception?

FH mentioned having one and when I looked them up it seems the jury is out when (if you have one at all) you serve it - reception or RD.

In our case, we already have ordered a wedding cake for the reception that will serve everyone there, so if we do the reception it would be another cake choice.

They are most often at the reception near the regular cake. However, we are not doing one.

We're not doing one, it seems silly. We're just going to choose our dessert together and pick things we both like.

FH's mom's best friend is making one for our rehearsal dinner. I didn't care if we had one and I figured if it fell through it was no big deal. FH didn't know, so it'll be a fun surprise.

We're doing one. In FH's culture, the groom's cake is a rum fruit cake, and it was one of the things he was excited about.

I want to get one for FH, probably for the RD since we're doing a restaurant reception and just ordering dessert through them.

I am surprising FH with a grooms cake themed after our favorite baseball team. I even had a personalized bobblehead made to use as a topper. I was fully set on having it at the RD until a couple weeks ago. The more I thought about it, the more I wanted everyone to see it. Not just the wedding party. So I am now displaying it on the dessert bar with the wedding cake on a separate table.

This is really a personal decision. We thought about this however we do not plan on having a grooms cake. One cake is enough for us and our guests.

Every wedding I went to growing up had a grooms cake. There was no question that we will have one at the reception. It's odd to me that people would serve it at the rehearsal dinner.

We didn't do one because DH said he didn't see the purpose since we both picked out the cake together. We did toy with the idea, but ultimately decided against it. One thing that stopped us was the concern that people would prefer the groom's cake flavor and not the expensive wedding cake and the possibility that we wouldn't have enough for each guest. If we had done one, it would have been just a regular cake and not anything crazy or themed. If it's something your FH definitely wants, I would do it at the reception.

I'm not sure if we are going to have one. But, my friend had one at her wedding and it was served during the reception.

I'm doing one (even though it means foregoing what I want for a cake). It was important to me that FH had elements of his personality, so I was not cutting out the groom's cake at the wedding!

Since FH showed interest in one you aught to and hurry and order it personally my FH doesn't want one so not having to worry about it

I would do it in a different cake flavor so that guests have a choice

I never understood the concept of having one, but if your FH wants it I say get it and sit it beside the regular wedding cake.
