Groom's Cake - Who Pays? - Everyone loves Pictures!!

I'm not sure if Groom's cakes are popular all over but in the south there's a Groom's cake at every wedding. I'm not sure if Groom's cakes are popular all over but in the south there's a Groom's cake at every wedding. Normally the wedding cake is a light flavor like vanilla or whatever, then the groom's cake is a form of chocolate cake. My FH's family is from the north east but now living here in Houston and until we were in engaged, FMIL had never heard of the groom's cake,

So my parents are paying for 90% of the wedding, and some of the groom's cakes we have seen the price per slice can almost be DOUBLE what the wedding cake is (depends on all the decorations and icing). My mom was wondering, who pays for the groom's cake? Does she since she's buying the cake? Does FIL's because it's a cake for their son? Do we? Obviously I don't want anyone to spend $7/slice on a groom's cake when our wedding cake will only be around $3.50, so we would pick something cheaper, but I'm just curious, who pays?

Hmmm...I thought the groom (or groom's family) paid for it since that was for him. Like the bride (or bride's family) pays for the wedding cake. That's what we did. I didn't even think twice about who should pay for it but assumed his cake = he pay.

You're right though. The groom's cake ends up being more expensive than the regular cake.

@Vita - whoever wants it eats it. It's just a different flavor and usually a fun cake vs. the traditional bridal cake.

I live in Knoxville and the University of Tennessee stadium is a groom's cake I've seen often which is really cool.

I was under the impression if you do a grooms cake it's usually set up by the bride to surprise the groom. He wouldn't even know about it and therefore the bride would pay for it since it's sort of a gift to him.

@gonnabeahair so you would ask the guests to choose whether they want the grooms or bridal cake? Or do people usually eat both?

I would assume it is a gift from the bride to the groom, so the bride should pay.

@gonnabeahair yeah here in Texas the three most common ones I see are the Texas A&M stadium, UT Stadium and the Texas Aggies Ring.

I need to have a conversation with him and even see if he wants the cake. I just assumed he'd want one since every wedding I've ever been to in my life has had one!!

@Vita normally they eat both but not everyone always eats both so both cakes don't have to be big enough for all your guests.

    Edit to add second part

Dang I wish I was back in my home town! I'd make you a grooms cake for free! I have been wanting to do a Texans cake for a LONG time now! Go Texans!

ETA: Sorry I don't know the answer to your question. I have only made one grooms cake and the couple paid for it. They had a brides cake and a grooms cake. Each were logos of the companies they worked for.

I paid for my FH groom's cake, I think it's considered a gift from the bride.
