Groom's Cake - Who Pays? - Everyone loves Pictures!!

I'm not sure if Groom's cakes are popular all over but in the south there's a Groom's cake at every wedding. Normally the wedding cake is a light flavor like vanilla or whatever, then the groom's cake is a form of chocolate cake. My FH's family is from the north east but now living here in Houston...

I'm not sure if Groom's cakes are popular all over but in the south there's a Groom's cake at every wedding. Normally the wedding cake is a light flavor like vanilla or whatever, then the groom's cake is a form of chocolate cake. My FH's family is from the north east but now living here in Houston and until we were in engaged, FMIL had never heard of the groom's cake,

So my parents are paying for 90% of the wedding, and some of the groom's cakes we have seen the price per slice can almost be DOUBLE what the wedding cake is (depends on all the decorations and icing). My mom was wondering, who pays for the groom's cake? Does she since she's buying the cake? Does FIL's because it's a cake for their son? Do we? Obviously I don't want anyone to spend $7/slice on a groom's cake when our wedding cake will only be around $3.50, so we would pick something cheaper, but I'm just curious, who pays?

We're having a grooms cake but it's not the ridiculous fondant shaped cakes like in the OP, which I hate. It's his favorite cake.....Chocolate with buttercream frosting. He loves and owns a Ford Mustang. I am going to have a toy mustang painted gold and placed on top ....yes it will be sitting on something, not the cake itself.

The bride pays for the grooms cake typically. Not her family, but her.

The bride usually. I am getting mine a really creative one for $375. It's not big, so that's why it is not so expensive. I read that traditionally only the Groom and groomsmen eat that cake- not totally sure if that is true though.. Either way I'm doing it this way.

The bride herself pays for it. You really shouldn't ask your in-laws to pay for it!

My family will be paying for his cake. He doesn't know what he wants yet, just chocolate and he thinks he might want candy on top. FH is obsessed with sweets! I hate it, he's totally over-developed my sweet tooth. I never really had one before and now all I want are sweets all the time!

I would think the bride would pay for it.

I'm paying for ours but I'm also paying for more then most of the wedding.

I can't imagine why anyone other than you or the groom would pay for the groom's cake. Seriously, why would your parents or FILs be responsible for this?? Just pay for it.

We're in a similar situation- I'm from the northeast and FH is from the south. My parents are paying for almost all of the wedding, and we are paying for the rehearsal dinner so his family doesn't stress about the cost. I assume we will cover the groom's cake since it will be at the rehearsal dinner. One of my best friends got her groom's cake from Publix (I think? Definitely a grocery store in SC) and it was the best cake I've ever had (better than the wedding cake) and quite inexpensive if you're looking to avoid spending a ton of money.

I've never heard of a Groom's cake, nor have I have ever seen one at a wedding that I've been to. First time I heard about the Grooms' cake was WW. Didn't have one, and my husband would flip if the price was double the wedding cake.

@#Holler I wish we had Publix here in Houston, it's FH's favorite grocery store. We will figure out something. I'm not stressed about it.

I paid for it and it was served at rehearsal dinner. I had it made to look like Xbox 360 complete with the controller!

Bride pays for it. And there's a tradition to it: According to superstition, any single woman at a wedding should go home with a slice of groom’s cake and sleep with it under her pillow. That night, according to legend, she’ll dream of her future husband.

As usual, a lot of brides appear to be going overboard on designing them! And a lot of times, the cake will go totally untouched.

So the cake doesn't need to be costly! Since the groom's cake is considerably smaller and less costly to make--try getting one from a bakery, Costco, or Sams--and add your own decorations that mean something to the groom.

In some cases, they simply put bunches of sugared grapes or strawberries on it or around the base--which a lot of people like to nibble on even if they don't eat the cake.

@brit, I read an article that said the bride pays for it as a gift to the groom.

Whoever the groom's cake is most important to maybe? Whether it's you or his mom wanting to give it to him?

So who eats the grooms cake? Do the guests decide which one they want?
