Groom's Cake - Reception or Rehearsal??

Catherine Renee, on December 12, 2015 at 12:56 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 6

So our wedding cake is included with our venue which is a huge plus and gives us some wiggle room to buy a groom's cake. The wedding cake is going to be big enough to feed everyone there, so would a groom's cake be too much dessert then? Also is a Groom's cake suppose to be presented at the rehearsal dinner only or can you also have it at your reception? We are huge Steelers fan's and would love to have it decorated and shown for everyone to see, not just the people at the rehearsal. But if we do it for the reception then I would be left without a dessert for the rehearsal possibly.

We are having a wedding cake big enough to feed all guests plus some and we will also have a grooms cake that will feed about 3/4 of the guests. With all the layers and flavors there will be 4 different options. But we expect people to have more than one slice. I mean who doesn't love wedding cake! And it'll all be at the reception

Ours will be at the reception only. For our RD, we're serving cake, but they will be home made. I haven't decided on all of them, but red velvet, pineapple coconut and lemon are definitely on the menu.

You can do it either way. Personally, I think having it at the RD makes more sense as two cakes seems a bit much. It might work though if you did 2 different types of cake.

I honestly didn't know you could have the grooms cake at the RD. I've only seen them at the reception. We are doing cupcakes and a dessert bar for the reception, so might look into a grooms cake for the RD.

I've only ever seen a grooms cake at the reception.

You can do either! Lots of people do RD because that way it does get eaten and two cakes in 1 night can be a lot. What my brother did was they had a small themed cake (Mario theme) at the reception for display only. The next day at gift opening they served it to all the immediate family at the opening.
