Groom in a fedora??

Private User, on November 9, 2014 at 3:16 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 20

My FH wants to wear a fedora at our wedding. The ceremony is in a church so he wouldn't wear it for that but for our first look pictures and reception he would have it. My mom says this is "silly", but I kinda like the idea. My FMIL has no opinion. Is this a thing? Can/do grooms wear fedoras? Thanks!

I'm personally not a fan, but if you both like it then go for it.

I don't like fedoras. I agree with your mom.

My worry is that everyone will hate it

I'm not a fan of it, but if he wants to wear one for the first look that may be fine. Have it for a few photos and then have the rest without it.

Not a fan and how will that affect pictures? Will his face be in shadows? But it's your wedding.

Personally i agree with your mom, it is kind of silly. But if you both like it, go for it! Don't worry what others think. Especially if it's just for the reception and pictures. Maybe take some pictures with and without it, so your mom and whoever else can have a pic without it, if that's their preference.

I think it is silly looking, but maybe you can compromise and have him in a fedora for a couple of pictures and then leave it out so you have some professional photos without the hat.

If a groom in a fedora is part of your vision, go for it. It's unconventional, but it's no more questionable than a groom who wears renaissance garb. a groom who wields a light sabre as he's being introduced to some Star Wars music, or a groom who has a lego man or a shot gun shell attahed to his lapel instead of a conventional bout. Do what feels right.

    Groom in fedora? YES!

He wants to do it, and you say you like it, so that should pretty much answer your question. Other people might think it's silly, but so what? It's not their wedding, and it's not their pictures.

I'm all for having grooms do their thing. If he wants to wear it, I say go for it.

I think if he likes it and it fits your overall vision of the wedding. Here's some photos I found. It looks nice when coupled with a vintage/rustic bridal style.

Thanks so much guys! I think we've decided to have him where it for a few first look pics and then just at the reception after the first dance.

This is *his* wedding and *your* wedding. If he wants to wear it, and you don't mind, flip the moms the bird (so to speak) and have him wear it. This is the time to make it clear who's in this marriage (you and FH) and who's on the outside (mothers, among others).

Fedoras remind me of prom. I think what you two came up with is a good middle ground!

It all depends on style and personality, if hats are his thing and he looks good, why not! It will be a reflection of him. But, if he never wears hats and he just got the idea out of the blue, he may look like he has a costume on, so you may want to reconsider.

Sneakers are my thing, I love high tops, so wore them for my engagement pics, and most likely I will change into them mid-party on wedding day.

Every time I have a doubt, I ask myself: "when I look at my pictures 2, 5, 10 years from now, will I regret this decision?"

My FH has a fedora that he loves. He isn't wearing it for the wedding but I think we're incorporating it into our engagement photos.

(I'm always a little sad that men don't wear hats anymore. Or suits more generally)

My personal opinion is that no one should ever wear a fedora.

I say yes! FH wants to, you like the idea, those are the only important opinions here. Personally I want FH to wear one, but it's just not him. I think it can finish the look if he isn't going to be in a full tux.

He ALWAYS wears a baseball cap and used to wear a fedora before he lost it. I think we've come up with a good compromise by him wearing it for a few first look pics and then at the reception. My mom will have to deal. Thanks for all of the comments!
