Grandma’s wedding ring?

I’m having a wedding ring dilemmma! I posted the other day a bunch of choices but still don’t love any. I have my grandma’s wedding band and she was very special to me, i was even born on her birthday. She passed 8 years ago but I think of her every day. She passed down her wedding ring to me and I’m sort of thinking of using it as my wedding band, but the band is so thin and crooked that I would need to reshank it or set the diamonds in another setting. Anyone else do this? Or wear a family band? Mine would not match and I worry about regretting not having my own, but I also think this wouldn be super special too!! Thoughts on how this looks?

I would go to a local jeweler and ask what they could do. My FFIL is a jeweler and I know he encountered a similar situation before, with a bride who wanted to use a family heirloom but didn’t like the aesthetics of it. He was able to melt down the ring and reshape it. It looked like a different ring afterwards but he didn’t add anything to it, he just created a new ring out of the old ring.

I love the sentiment of using an heirloom. I do not think you will regret it. And if you do you can always get a different band down the road or an anniversary band. Definitely talk to a jeweler and see what your options are with reworking your grandmothers band!

I love the idea of using your grandmother's band! I think it will really mean that much more to you, and like NinjaBride said, you can always get an anniversary band if you decide to later on. It looks beautiful in the photo you posted.

Thank you soooo much. I actually have been searching in stores for months and can't find one I love, and I put this on tonight to try it, after visiting a jewelry store where the salesclerk said she never bought a band because she couldn't decide on one, and so used her grandma's band instead and 10 years later never got a different one. That is what made me come home and try this one and I actually love it. It's so special too and I don't think I would regret it. I will take it in tomorrow to see what they can do to repair it. Thank you all!!!!

I agree with seeing what a jeweler can do ! A lot of my family members wear a wedding ring heirloom on their right hand ring finger every day instead !

It's a beautiful idea to stick with your grandmother's ring. It's way more powerful! Hopefully there is some store out there that can help restore it - it looks so gorgeous and has great potential!
