Good tasting, yet inexpensive, wine recommendations?

JulyBride, on May 5, 2014 at 9:24 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 21

We want a bottle of wine for our wedding night. Neither of us drink very often, and i have only had two different types of wine, one of which was disgusting and the other was Arbor Mist which i found to be good but my fiance hates it. So, we need advice.

Anyone out there found a wine that tastes good, but doesnt cost an arm and a leg?

Cupcake Vineyards makes awesome wine that costs around $10 a bottle. Depending on what you like, I'm sure they'll have a wine you'd enjoy.

And it sounds adorable because of the whole cupcake thing Smiley smile

    I like Barefoot wines!

ETA: The bigger bottles cost around $10/bottle for this brand. Beringer is a good brand too and around the same price.

Castillero Del Diablo Cabernet is my favorite.

120 Cabernet is also a really good, inexpensive ($6.99) one that I have been buying the past few months.

I also like Barefoot Merlot and Beringer.

(I guess you and I like the same wines Rach lol)

I second Barefoot. Yellowtail is also another inexpensive, but tasty brand.

Do you prefer sweet wines or something less sweet? Bubbles or no?

Cupcake is good, especially their Red Velvet if you like reds!

I like Yellowtail as a "bargain" bottle. Barefoot has a really good reisling. Which, if you aren't a big wine drinker, is light, sweet, white wine so good to start with. if you want a red, I'd suggest a shiraz/syrah as they are a bit lighter/sweeter than, say, cabernet, which many "new" drinkers don't like (I've been a wino for years and am only starting to like cabernet now. it's very heavy!)

You might also like a sparkling white, which is like champagne. Cupcake's Prosecco is really good!

    French Rabbit - http://www.frenchrabbit.com/home.html

We buy it at our local grocery store (safeway) for around $8-$10 and it is amazing.

Don't let the adult juice box style fool you, it's some of the best wine I've had.

    Chardonnay is my favorite!

I'd also suggest a white wine over a red. It's great for beginner wines. Don't forget to pair it with a little snack which will help with taste; like fruit, cheese, or dessert. It doesn't have to be fancy, just something you both can enjoy!

I second the Cupcake wines...red velvet is delish and so is the Pinot Noir (I'm a red drinker!) but I've also heard great things about the white

Risata Moscato di' Asti is a brand that was given to me as an engagement gift by a coworker. I found it at Target for about $15/bottle and when I finally opened it, it was DELICIOUS. It's a sweeter wine, with a light effervescent, but it's not a moscato that's TOO sweet. It needs to be served chilled.

I attached a picture of the bottle (left). Ignore the book, I was taking a picture for the blog. The bottle just happened to make it in the picture.

FH and I don't like very much either. Many times when we eat out we order sangria! Recently though, on a trip to Italy, we discovered that we both like Prosecco. It's a white sparkling wine.

If you want something around $3 to $5 a bottle I'd recommend Yellowtail, Barefoot, Sutter Home, and Beringer.

For someone just starting out with wine cupcake is good. It is very sweet and I can't drink it anymore but when I first started acclimating to wine I loved it. I'm not a huge fan of Barefoot but I do like Yellow Tail. I also like Woodbridge but I'm not sure how the price is outside of California. Don't get Sutter Homes.

Hot to Trot by 14 Hands is a good wine for people that don't drink a lot of wine either. I can't remember the price but I know it's under $10.
