Good ideas to get bridesmaid and groomsmen thank you gifts

Erika, on June 7, 2018 at 4:43 PM Posted in Planning 0 27

I created this discussion since it has been really hard for me to get one idea that convinces me. The traditional one is robes, hangers, sandals, etc. I would like something unique that they will always remember that special day for my fiance and me.

Don't feel compelled to get everyone the same thing -- that automatically makes it less personal and less meaningful. Shop like everyone in your wedding party is having a birthday so everyone gets something just right for them.

"The traditional one is robes, hangers, sandals, etc."

This is a common misconception. Props for your pics are not gifts. That's like a husband buying his wife a new mop for her birthday. Yes, she might use it, but that doesn't mean it was a thoughtful gift.

Gifts are chosen for each individual with their taste/interests/hobbies in mind. Take a few minutes to think of each person as an individual, not a BM. It's not that hard.

I have been shopping for months. I like to do things like... if I see something that says "Jill should own this" and it fits within my budget, I purchase it. I have a box growing of the items I have picked up for my girls. Kind of like someone else suggested "Shop like everyone in your wedding party is having a birthday". The only reason they would all have the same thing is if they would all happen to like the same item, which has happened with a couple things I picked up. I found a little notebook that they would all like, I saw a cute T-Shirt one of my girls would like, a book another would like.. I am planning on getting a small piece of jewelry and this will be different for all of them because they all have different styles.

I personally never understood why a bride would think her bridesmaid would want a hanger as a gift. I'm sure the bridesmaid couldn't care less what type of hanger her dress was hanging on. A lot of the stuff brides get are inspired by Pinterest and Etsy and honestly most of that stuff is just for "pretty pictures" - props for the bride's wedding. Most bridesmaids don't treasure these items.

Buy gifts just like any other gift giving occasion. Figure out what they really like and buy accordingly.

Your gift is a thank you to them for being your bridesmaids. Robes, hangers, are not "thank yous" but are items for getting ready for the wedding. The general rule is that anything that is for the wedding day, especially if you're buying it because the photos will look so cool, are props, not gifts.

I go back and forth but these are some of my ideas for my bridesmaids (all won't have the same thing):

    - "Dinner and a movie" gift cards

    - A gift box from OneHope: https://www.onehopewine.com/shop/gifts/gift. I especially like their "Frose" gift box; my MOH and I have completely separate tastes in wine and I know she'd LOVE this

    - High-end makeup (primarily thinking of my sisters as I know the products they like)

    - Wine and liquor they like with a corresponding item (e.g., bottle stopper, shot glass)

    - Other gift cards; starbucks, target, ulta, spa, etc.

    Things I'm avoiding:

    - Anything monogrammed - this goes for their actual names and their wedding party titles

    - Things that I don't 100% know they will love and wear/use - jewelry, tote bags, robes. People always get me jewelry and my style is very minimalist in quantity and specific in type. I've thrown away or given away so much jewelry in my lifetime.

Have you checked Etsy or Amazon? My fiance is getting cigars and then something outdoorsy themed for his groomsmen. Most of them like camping so it should be a good gift. I'm making my girls wine glasses as one of their gifts, since we all love wine!

Like others have mentioned avoid anything that’s says bridesmaid/maid of honor/your wedding date. I agree with getting something personal for each of them. One of my girls is obsessed with candles so I’m getting her a nice one from candlefish. Another loves bags and pineapples so I got her a pineapple wristlet from jcrew. One I got some of her favorite Sephora products. Anyway you get the picture

I also got them a few of the “basic” bridesmaids gifts. Well, some would call them props. I think it’s nice to have some matching stuff and feel part of a special group but that’s just me. If you want some matching stuff that is nicer quality and could be used again here are my suggestions and things that I did.

If you buy jewelry try to get something high enough quality that they’d want to wear it again. I got me and my girls these bracelets from Etsy. Mine in white pearl and there’s in champagne

If you get robes think about material and color. I’m opting for a slightly more expensive robe that is jersey knit instead of satin and I got them in a basic cream color instead of my wedding colors.

I also got them wine tumblers. We are going on a part bus to take pictures so we can put our drinks in them. https://www.thewhiteinvite.com/collections/swig-wine-tumblers/products/rose-gold-swig-wine-tumbler-bridesmaid-gift-bachelorette-gift-custom-personalized-monogrammed-tumbler-with-lid

Im also paying for their hair/makeup because they’ve done so much for me.

I REALLY struggled coming up with gift ideas for my girls hopefully some of this is useful to someone. I was looking everywhere for suggestions.

I love everyone ideas. My FH and I budgeted about $100/person and wanted to make sure everyone would get something they actually enjoy. I got the bridesmaids each a 1 hr massage certificate at nice places near their homes and gave each a giftbox that had a nice frame and candle from World Market. I also included a makeup setting spray for the day of.

Groomsmen are getting Tombags which we found on Etsy. They are nice canvas duffles that make a great weekend bag.

I've been doing this too! I struggled with one girl, but have completed everyone as of last night when some string art from etsy was delivered! I had fun getting them each things that I think/hope they will like.

I think you have to tailor it to the person. For my mom I got a bunch of Lush bath bombs for about $60. Our son’s will be our best man and groomsman. They are weird and goofy and inappropriate lol. We got them these really cool funny caricature mugs I found on Etsy. The first picture is what the mugs themselves look like, the next two are the sketches they made based on some goofy pics I sent of them.

Why not get each of them something different, depending on their style and personality? I found an adorable ceramic elephant succulent planter that I plan on getting one of my BMs because she is obsessed with elephants. I plan on checking out the really cute boutique stores in town that sell all unique, one-of-a-kind even handmade items for other gifts. Maybe check out those kinds of store if you have them near you. I would stick with some different for each of them. That's more personal than the props people give their BMs/groomsmen for photos, which IMO aren't really gifts.

Thank you Amanda. It is a tough choice to make since 5 of my bridesmaid are family members and they have different personalities and preferences when it comes to color or things. I would have to pay special attention to get something different.

Thank you Muriel. I believed that to when my Maid of honor said that a robe and some other things should be given since I taught I had to buy some unique and thoughtful that meant a lot to them.

Thank you Lawrence. I was debating when it comes to jewelry since some girls are allergic to some kind of earring but I think something like a necklace or bracelet will work out.

Thank you for your feedback April. It is true, I should buy something valuable that my bridesmaid would say, she taught about me and I feel s special that she took a time even though she was busy with the whole planning.

    Thank you Earias,

I was thinking a lot last night and had the perfect gift for 2 of my bridesmaid that love makeup. I will give them a Morphe palette that I am sure they will use and be happy to receive it. Of course, they are totally different colors and styles.

Thank you Casey. I do love the ideas you shared with me and take them into consideration. Like gift cards, who wouldn't love Sephora, Ulta, Amc Movies and other gift cards.

Thank you for your feedback. Groomsmen gifts aren't as picky as bridesmaid. I did like your suggestions and will ask my fiance which one would be best to give it to them.
