Gold Chiavari Chairs vs. Venue's Banquet Chairs???

Sarah, on September 12, 2018 at 1:04 AM Posted in Style and Décor 0 16

Hello fellow Weddingwire-rs!

The first thing I noticed about my venue was the chairs. I thought they were ugly, ugly, ugly. I told my fiance that if we booked the venue, we would definitely have to change out the chairs (and he agreed because he wants me to be happy).

Now that we're ~40 days away, somehow the chairs slipped and were de-prioritized compared to other things (lighting, decor, etc.). I love the look of the Chiavari chairs and think they are so elegant, but have read several Weddingwire posts about how uncomfortable they can be. My venue's "ugly" chairs are padded and while I don't think they are that ugly now, I'm just not a big fan of the banquet style look.

The gold banquet chairs that come with my venue (see pictures, I would have them without sashes) happen to match my color scheme (gold, burgundy, sage green, navy), but I still find myself pining for the gold Chiavari chairs. Although we have the budget for them, they are ~$7.50 per chair x 110 guests + tax + delivery + set up + damage waiver yadda yadda yadda, so I am having a hard time with that. I know guests don't really notice them (but as the bride, I do), but can someone either talk some sense into me and convince me that they are not bad or to just bite the bullet already on the Chiavari chairs? Would also love to hear others' similar chair struggles.

In other news, I'm still driving my fiance crazy so he'd also appreciate your input to so this madness can end! Haha. Thanks in advance Smiley smile

I wish I could be more help, as I see both sides to this! Honestly? The chairs aren’t THAT bad. And people will be sitting in them, so it’s not like they will be the focus of the room or even a big focus in your photographs. However, I do like the look and elegance of the Chiavari chairs. Even though you say it’s within your budget, is it worth $1,000 to you? That’s a hefty amount that can go towards a honeymoon! Ultimately though, if you really want the chairs and are willing to spend the money, go for it!

In my opinion, I think the banquet chairs look okay in the first picture because it goes with the warm color scheme, but they don’t match the black in the second picture. Changing to chiavari chairs makes a significant difference in the overall look of the wedding, but if your decor/color scheme matches your banquet chairs it may not be needed. If your guests are going to be sitting a majority of the time I would lean more towards the banquet chairs

Stick with the banquet chairs I don’t think they look bad, they go with your color scheme, and you won’t have to spend more.

I like the banquet chairs. I think if your table setting includes gold (linens, chargers, flatware or at least gold centerpieces), these look fine & I wouldn’t spend the extra $1K. Your most important wedding photos won’t likely include the chairs anyway.

If you’ll die without Chiavari chairs get ‘em. Otherwise, skip ‘em. 🙂

I am with you I just love Chivari chairs and I’m gonna pay for them. I think they change everything about the atmosphere and look. My rate is a little cheaper though and I have fewer guests.

The banquet chairs are fine. They match your colors, and they’re more comfortable. The chivari chairs look nice in detail shots, but you don’t see them once people are sitting down anyway. IMO the cost to rent, plus the delivery and set up fees are far too expensive to justify them. As a guest, I’d rather have a late night snack or upgraded bar for the money you’d spend on chairs.

The banquet chairs look comfortable with the back support and butt support from the cushion, honestly no one would care. everyone will be on the dance floor!!

As a guest I can tell you no many will remember nor care what the chairs look like, as long as there are enough chairs for everyone. I literally just attended a wedding last Friday and cannot for the life of me remember what type of chair they had.

This is so funny because when we started all this I went nuts about the chairs. I was completely okay with the extra couple hundred to upgrade our chairs because I HATE the Chiavari chairs lol. I know people love them but I honestly think they are so ugly and so cliche wedding. You are right, you and you alone are the only one who is even going to notice the chairs. But I think the venue chairs are nice, if they are cushioned then your guests will thank you for a comfy seat to rest their feet betwen dancing Smiley smile

Um who cares if the chairs are uncomfortable? People should only be sitting in them for their meal and then the rest of the time be up and dancing! (IMO)

I personally had chiavari chairs at my wedding and I think they added a really nice touch to the overall feel of the room. I never heard one complaint about the comfort of the chairs because people literally only sat in them to eat and the rest of the time they were mingling and dancing.

I actually don’t hate the banquet chairs! I do love chiavari chairs a lot. But I shudder at spending $7.50+ a piece on chairs 😩 If I was a guest, I would only notice if your chairs had those disgustingly ugly white stretch covers and sashes over them. Blegh!

Hi everyone, thanks so much for your supportive input, tough love, and similar chair "struggles"! I've really enjoyed reading your comments and showing them to my fiance.

I've finally made the decision...to not get the Chiavari chairs given some other recent unexpected costs (it wouldn't be a wedding without those, right??). Thank you for making me feel better about either outcome Smiley smile

You made a wonderful choice! Chiavari chairs, however elegant and stylish, are HORRID to sit in for more than a half hour (speaking from experience) so I'll thank you, right now, for all your guests!

I think they look fine. those other chairs are awful. I was at a wedding with them and they hurt to sit in. You could always get cloth and tie bows on the backs to make them a little more pleasing to look at. your guests will be more likely to talk about how uncomfortable they were than the look of the chairs.

So happy I found this thread because I was going through the same issue. We will have over 300 plus people at our wedding and I can't justify paying over 1k for Chiavari chairs, the banquet Chairs at our venue aren't that bad, plus with the lighten that we will use, you won't even notice the chairs. I'm even thinking about maybe getting the Chiavari chairs for just us and the bridal party table only.
