Going to see my dress

Alyssa, on February 25, 2020 at 10:49 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 23
I got the call today that my dress came in! The bridal shop wanted me to setup a try on appointment (wedding isn’t until September so it won’t be an official fitting yet) so I set one for April when my mom who lives out of state will be here.

I’m dying to go see the dress beforehand though! The paranoid part of me just wants the peace of mind that it’s the right dress, size I ordered, etc.
I want to save the excitement of putting it on for the first time for when I’m with my mom but is it weird to just go see my dress? How soon after your dress arrived did you go to try it on?

    Hi Alyssa,
Super exciting for you! I think you should definitely go see it, seeing my wedding dress for the first time was the MOST exciting part of the whole process for me. I found my dream dress after trying on about 20, but I kept looking at more because they are all so beautiful and I was addicted, it's so exciting getting ready to walk down the aisle. Here's my dress.Going to see my dress 1

Alyssa, I did go try it on right away, but the boutique where I bought it didn't have a seamstress, so I was picking it up anyway, but the excitement was raging inside me to see it! You should be excited 😍😍

So I had a similar situation I ended up going in a month early without my mom brought my BFF whose is my MOH and swore her to secrecy. I was so happy I tried it on early and had that relief that it fit and it was perfect it didn’t take away anything from when I went with my mom a few weeks later because I had no doubts or worries and was just plain excited and in love with my dress! I say go try it on!

I purchased my dress off rack but I'm still paying on it. I had my Maid's Party for my Bridesmaids that's when I tried on my dress again for all of them to see and I literally didn't want to take my dress off.

I would go and try it on again then when your mom is in town you can try it on again for her Smiley smile

I did this. My wedding is in June and my mom who also lives out of state was with me when I picked it out. I'm so glad I went to try it on alone because it was a little too tight! It was otherwise perfect but gave me a kick in the pants to push myself a little harder in the gym and watch what I put in my mouth a lot more! My "fittings" are in April so I'm hoping by then it will zip better!

Try it on immediately. I was so excited and opened the back and the petty cost was like 10 times larger than the one in the dress I tried on. We had to send it back to the designer to fix. It was a huge let down. It all got fixed with plenty of time and it is back and everything is good, but I would not wait.

Also something I had thought about! I’ve only tried on the sample dress which was too big so I’m curious to see how the one in my size fits. I’ve got time to go to the gym before my mom gets here if it’s snug!

This is my biggest fear! Knowing this actually could happen (I thought I was being irrational with being afraid of this) makes me definitely want to set up an appointment ASAP

Thank you Alyssa, could you tell me who your designer is, and the dress style you bought? I'd love to see it online if you'll allow?

I went as soon as I could and am grateful I did because I also had the “OMG this isn’t right” moment — my dress came in the wrong color. Thankfully I went in early enough that there was time to get the right one (but I had been a little late to the shopping game so was very worried there might not be time to fix it!)
Sadly, I had brought my MIL, and it turned into a very disappointing outing! So I felt quite bad.

Error aside, I don’t think I’d be able to wait til April! I’d honestly go in and even put it on just to check that it’s right— the first time will be more relief than excitement anyway. Get in and get out of it and don’t bother getting accessorized or anything, and you’ll still have PLENTY of excitement left for mom. Once you have the worry off your shoulders, when you go in with mom, you’ll be free to be fully excited rather than also partly nervous/anxious.
When my dress did come in the right color, I went alone, bc I didn’t want to put MIL through that again, but later felt bad because I had the BEST experience, as the girl brought me veils and hair pieces and all that jazz to try on with the dress — *thats* something you could save for mom— the completed looked , that both of you see for the first time, if you have jewelry etc already

After I got the call that my dress came in, I tried it on the following week. I just wanted to make sure nothing was wrong with it in case I would have to order a new one.

This is such a good idea for how to still make it special when my mom is there. Thank you!

That’s my fear that something could be wrong with it and I’d rather find out sooner than later. I made an appointment for next week to be safe!

I went in and tired mine on fairly quickly after it came in. But my dress shop also had a policy that if I didn't come in and claim it within 10 days it was on me to fix it if something were wrong.

I am going through the same thing! I am getting married in October, my dress came in yesterday. I am so anxious to try it on just Incase, I am so worried the sizing will be too snug or I won’t like it as much.
I’ve been trying to decide if I should call my sister in law to go with me, making an outing out of it. Or just pick it up and try it on at home.
