Gifts for 2 wedding ceremonies

Alison, on April 4, 2016 at 2:08 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 4

Hi,

I've got a good friend who just got married (civil service only) and I couldn't attend because it was last-minute. She's also having a bigger, religious wedding in Ecuador in 2 years and she wants me to be in the bridal party. I'm hoping I can be there, but it will be at least $1000 for a plane ticket, $100 for a new passport, plus a dress and any vaccines I need. What do I do about wedding gifts? Should I get her one for her official marriage that just happened AND the destination wedding? I feel like me traveling to Ecuador is a big enough gift for the 2nd wedding, but if I don't end up being able to go, maybe I should get her one gift now. What are your thoughts? Thanks!

One gift. I purposely asked/ told my bridal party not to get me anything due to the expenses they incurred while standing up for us. Some still did, but we made it clear that it was not expected.

I would just do one gift now and then start saving for Ecuador.

One gift now, no gift later. She's getting married once...so one gift!
