Gift ideas for my mom, grandma, my grandfather, step dad, fmil, fgmil, and Best man.

Riley, on August 6, 2020 at 3:38 AM Posted in Planning 0 8

I need gift ideas for my mom, grandma, my grandfather, step dad, fmil, and fgmil. I am horrible with getting gifts. At Christmas I usually just give gift cards, but obviously I can't do that. Plus all my people are super picky. My family doesn't like jewelry. The men are very manly. I just am clueless I suck at this lol any advice appreciated.

If they prefer gift cards, why can't you do that?

We tried to personalize the gifts, and not make them necessarily wedding related (like... I gave my MOH some nerdy art that is very much her favorite Nerd Thing, DH gave cufflinks/jewelry, but they were specific to the person - baseball related, or such).

You know these people better than anyone else! Whatever you choose, choose something that represents your relationship with them and how you feel about them.

Example, my FILs have EVERYTHING, need nothing. It was their 50th wedding anniversary and my FH and I had no idea what to get them. We were at a Hallmark store buying a card and happened upon a wooden sign that said, " Once in a while in the middle of an ordinary life, love gives us a fairy tale" - and it seemed more than fitting for them. I honestly thought based on her art throughout their home it would be there for a week or so... but it's been a few years and it's still displayed for all to see.

One year for my mom I found her a first edition of the book she loved as a child.

Again, these are your family, no one knows them better. Think outside the box, think of conversations you've had and you give them something that they wouldn't buy for themselves that is meaningful to you and them.

I would sit down and consider what each person really likes. For instance, does your step-dad have a favorite sports team? If so maybe pick something out related to that team. Or maybe he likes knives so you could get him an engraved knife? Or does your mom like decorating? Etsy has a ton of little wooden signs with cute sayings or you could make her a collage. For my mom, I made a collage of photos of our family. She loved it and it's hanging in my parents' house so she can look at it every day. One of my dad's gifts was a transportable mug. He needed a knew one since he takes one to work every day. I had it engraved with father of the bride and my wedding day. It was something cute and he could use every day. For my grandmother's birthday, I bought her a puzzle with a photo of the two of us from my wedding. She loves putting together puzzles. If any of them like puzzles, you could always get a custom puzzle with a photo of you with that person. I got the puzzle for my grandmother from Etsy. Your fiance should be able to help you with gift ideas for his family. You said your family doesn't like jewelry, but does his? I've included some links to ideas I think would be cute, but since I don't know your family I can't really tell you for sure if these are things they might like.

    Personalized Hammer

    Sports Mug

    Personalized Knife

    Mother of the Bride Mug

    Christmas Ornament

    Custom Puzzle

    Drawing

    Candle

Consider their interests. For the guys, do they like sports, hunting, drinking, tools, etc.? For the ladies, do they have favorite wine that you could purchase a bottle of? Or do any of them like reading, music, puzzles, jewelry (fiance's side), etc.? I'm sure each person has something they like that you could find something related to whatever it is they like. Etsy has a ton of personalized items that you could look for like what the previous poster mentioned.

I think gift cards are great! No one is ever offended by getting a gift card I promise.

I’ve been struggling with this myself! I’ve been looking at a lot of stuff on Etsy! My real father and fiancés real fathers are both hunter- so I might get them both a personalized knife. My step father and his step father aren’t hunters at all and into totally different things so I’m still trying to figure out what to get them. But Etsy does have a lot of amazing things if you just search wedding gifts!
