Gift for Wedding Date

Andrew, on April 13, 2017 at 11:48 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 8

I am attending a wedding next month, was wondering whether or not to get my wedding date a small gift for attending? She is the guest and is a friend, not significant other or spouse. if so, any suggestions? Thank you!

Umm...no. She gets a free nice dinner and open bar. if anything,, you could put her name on the gift/card/ whatever you give the couple getting married...

ETA: if you are wanting her to not be just a friend....something small maybe, but not required at all..

I don't see why a gift would be necessary. She gets a nice meal for free and hopefully a good time at a big party.

Do you want to give her something as a thank you for getting dressed up and taking time to be there with you? I think just saying "thank you" is sufficient. Shes (hopefully) getting a nice meal and a fun night out of it, so I don't think anything else is necessary. Sweet of you to think of that though.

I got the impression that Andrew is the plus one and his date is the invited guest.

Andrew, you may want to get a small gift or at least a card for the wedding couple, but not for your 'date.'

Okay, thanks for the suggestions! Someone had told me that their friend had bought their date a small gift for going to a wedding, so I didn't think it was common, but made me curious. Thanks again!
