Gift for the poor- Catholic Wedding

Maggie, on September 12, 2018 at 2:35 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 2
Hi- our priest told us about a gift for the poor that is from us and brought up during the gifts. I’ve never heard of this or have a seen this done at a wedding. So any ideas of what we should have as a gift to the poor?
thanks!

Hi there Maggie!!! Welcome to the WeddingWire community!!! Smiley star

In terms of a gift to the poor, I think they usually mean some sort of physical donation to a local charity, not monetary. I know when my church is throwing religious events like first communions that they ask those participating to bring in canned food donations for their food pantry. The kids bring it up in little baskets and rest them at the foot of the alter for the rest of the celebration, and then it goes to the pantry downstairs. It's an offering.

If you really have any questions, don't be afraid to ask your priest or someone else at the church. I bet it's not the first time they've been asked and I bet they're more than willing to help you figure it out. Smiley smile Hope that helps!

Never seen it done but im assuming you need something more than a check to present during mass! This had some info but I'd ask your church.http://www.smomp.org/weddingceremony.html
