Gift for my groom?

Jennifer, on June 21, 2012 at 1:41 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 16

I looked through previous posts, but was wondering if anyone currently on the boards has any new ideas. I am stuck for what to get my groom. He doesn't wear jewelry...I'm a little surprised he is even going to wear his ring. He doesn't own a watch, so I thought of getting him one, but since he doesn't ever wear one, I don't know that he would start. Not a cufflinks kind of a guy. I can't do boudoir pics. He does like playing cards, and I thought of a personalized poker set, but he already has a regular one. He doesn't play much golf. I am looking around for something, even if it is non-tangible, like concert tickets. Anyone have any creative ideas?

A poker table? If you don't have room to store one, I think they make a table topper that you just put on top of your dining table. Or a gift certificate to have a boys' night in playing poker, eating sandwiches, and drinking beer. When DH's buddies come to play poker at our house, I go out for the evening.

A money clip (that's what I gave DH because a watch & ring is all the jewelry he wears)? A multi-function pocket knife/tool (Leatherman, I think they're called)? An accessory for his vehicle? A video game?

I didn't do the usual boudoir pics-- they are pinup style instead so they are/can be less revealing and more kitschy. It was so fun! The photographer, Celeste, is an absolute doll and I wish she would be my best friend forever. hahah

I also got him Darth Vadar cufflinks! haha

My FH loves cars, so I am going to surprise him with a daily rental of his favorite sports car the day of, and that is what we are riding off in. He works with a car dealership, so I am going to contact them and see if they can give me a daily/hourly "test drive" for a good deal. But in some areas they actually have companies that rent out nice cars. Also, there will be a groom's cake!

My FH needs a new wallet and my brother happened to be in Italy this past semester. I asked him to pick me up a nice one at the leather market!

Does he have any special hobbies? I'm thinking of getting my FH a gas powered remote helicopter because he's ALWAYS wanted one... not very romantic, but I figure it might as well be a day for ALL of his dreams to come true! :-)

I would say look at his hobbies/interests

I got my FH a Callaway Iron that he doesn't have in his set along with some personalized golf balls with our names "lucky in love" and our wedding date since the guys are playing a round of golf at the resort we are getting married at while the girls get ready.

I also found a pair of custom cufflinks on Etsy that are old coins from when Russia was still the USSR (FH is Russian and came to the US as a kid) and the guy happened to have his birth year available. I can't wait for him to see those.

I'm total skipping this... I figure we are getting each other, rings, a wedding, and a trip to South Africa. I've never understood the gift thing (didn't do for my first wedding either) I will make a card to give him, knowing him he'll probably get one for me as well.

I saw this keychain on Etsy and will probably get him that. Granted I still have a year to change my mind, I think FH will really appreciate it. You pick the dates of the coins, such as year you met, year you got married, etc. Just search for "Lucky Us Keychain" on etsy and several items will pop up.

I am thinking about an iPad. My guy is super techy and has been wanting one. Maybe have our wedding date engraved on the back so it's not too cheesy!

You could also call up one of his favorite sports teams or bands and ask them to send something!

My FH told me what he wanted..which is great because he is one of those guys that has everything, and if he doesn;t have it and wants it, he won't wait, he will go and buy it! ( frustrating for birthdays and christmas). He loves antiques, and his gift is a WWII Winchester M1Garand. He knows I have already purchased the gun, and like a kid on christmas morning waiting to get it.. He will have to wait another 65 days Smiley smile

Thanks for the ideas. He does love to cook, and has recently started eating and liking sushi. I'm thinking of giving him a sushi making or other cooking class. It would actually pay off for both of us!

However, I am still thinking of a watch. I sort of casually slipped it into conversation. I asked what time it was, and when he pulled out his phone, I asked, "Doesn't it make you crazy not to wear a watch? I look at mine all the time. I feel naked without it." He responded that he just never found one he liked. That may make shopping difficult. Hmmmm.
