Gift cards instead of registry?

Iracema, on February 25, 2015 at 4:43 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 8

Is it "safe" to assume that if you do not register for household items than guest would think you would prefer gift cards instead?

No, they may give you cash or nothing at all. You can put gift cards on just about any actual registry.

Honestly, we LOVE Costco but we are pretty bummed they do not offer a registry. Although, any gift would be appreciated we would much rather have a Costco cash card or gift cards to spend at Costco (since any gift cards are accepted there with visa and master card logos) Is it too straight forward to ask for such a thing on our wedding website?

Yes, too straightforward. I would assume that if a couple didn't register or had a small registry they would prefer cash.

If guests give you cash, you can spend that at Costco.

If you don't register for anything people will end up buying random gifts they like and that they find on sale. I wouldn't count on people just bringing gift cards instead.

Our guest list is 95% family. They are all aware we would like to do home improvements. We made a small registry and also stated that gift cards to xxxxx store would be greatly appreciated. It is said a lot not to ask for cash or gift cards but to me it's no different than asking for an expensive gift. Tell your wedding party and have them spread the word

Do a registry and add a Costco gift card to it. Even if people assumed you wanted gift cards how would they know you wanted Costco gift cards.

Yes, they'll assume you want gift cards, or cash. Or they might get you random stuff lol. You absolutely CANNOT request such a thing on your website.
