Gettysburg PA wedding & reception

Sarah, on October 18, 2009 at 6:55 PM Posted in Planning 0 14

Anyone have ideas?? I have an appointment to go look at the Historic Gettysburg Hotel next Saturday... and have received some information from the Links at Gettysburg... just wondered if I missed anything? Live in York, but FH and I want to get married in Gettysburg... he is a history buff and has absolutely always LOVED Gettysburg for its Civil War history, and my grandfather & aunt (who both passed away many years ago) took me there multiple times a year, every year from when I was 5 until they passed away... I have had a difficult time finding other options online... just wondered if any of you could help with other suggestions... thank you so much!!!

GREAT choice for location! Aside from the history, it is also just a really cute town! I don't have recommendations on specific places, but I do know there is sort of a roundabout in the middle of town (Baltimore Street I think?) that I believe has some hotels and such? Maybe you can just walk around and check things out, and ask around while you are there. Also I know there's a college in town - maybe they have a hall or banquet room you can rent out. Good luck!

Thank you, I didn't think about checking out the Gettysburg College... the Historic Gettysburg hotel is the main hotel on the square (roundabout) of the town... they have a place for both the ceremony and the reception... the reception area seems gorgeous according to the pictures online, but they didn't have any of where the ceremony could take place, so i have to check it out... thank you again :-)

check out that website, they have like 7 venues in Gettysburg PA for wedding receptions, also and I know that this will be out of your way but FYI there is a beautiful historic mansion in Lancaster PA called Rockford Plantation, its really beautiful, FH and I looked into it but its too pricey for us, we are on a very low budget, its 900.00/off season and 1900.00 in the on season, so that maybe something to think about, good luck.

Your welcome, and in case you do decide to take a look then here is the link, keep in mind the prices above were quoted to me like a yr or so ago, so they may have increased or decreased and I can't remember what months are the on season and what months are the off season.Good luck! I go there ALL the time. There are so many places to choose from. I would go with the hotel in Lincoln square, maybe the Dobbin inn or there is a bed and breakfast just to the north by the KOA and orchards that is beautiful but I cant remember the name of it at the moment. Another area to look would be new oxford. Its about 15-20 min west of gettysburg and just as old and beautiful

Certainly with all the hotels down there, they would be somewhat competitive on getting the business. They just put in a new business/conference park on the way down 15 before you get to Gettysburg coming from the Harrisburg direction.

My favorite venue that I've worked in so far is Pheasant Field B&B, mailing address is Carlisle, but it is 15 minutes from me in Camp Hill. www.pheasantfield.com

I was born and raised in Gettysburg and lived there for 22 years before moving here.... there are many places that would be GREAT for picture ops but as far as the wedding venue itself.. it really depends on how many people would be there for the reception.. I know that the Dobbin House would do receptions and you can not get more historic than that fi you know what the Dobbin House was.. there are hundreds of places that you could go there! Great choice!!!

Heather, I'm sorry I didn't respond to your post sooner but things around here have been extremely busy! The Gettysburg Hotel has a WONDERFUL reception ballroom (and are decently priced for everything they offer). Wanda Gemmel is the wedding coordinator over there and she has been absolutely amazing to work with. I haven't gotten a chance to check out the Links at Gettysburg (it's a golf course) but have looked at their website and it appears beautiful. Hope that helps!
