Getting wedding dress cleaned before wedding

Hot chocolate, on June 13, 2013 at 3:06 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 10

Hi everyone. Does any know where I can take my dress to be cleaned before the wedding? I am guessing the dry cleaners? LOL. The dress is fine, I already have it hanging in my closest just wondering if I should take it to get cleaned like in september or october?

Dry Cleaners, call them a few weeks in advance to make sure you bring it in with enough time

Unless it somehow got dirty, don't do it.

If it is wrinkled, try hanging it in the bathroom while you take a hot shower. If that doesn't get the wrinkles out, the dry cleaner can steam the dress (w/o dry cleaning it).

Are you planning to wear it before the wedding? If not, it should be fine. I'm just having mine steamed and pressed before the wedding, not fully cleaned. I haven't worn it enough (just at fittings) to warrant paying for it to be cleaned.

I agree if it's just handing in your closet (I'm assuming in a garment bag) then don't take it. If you're looking to get wrinkles out, does your dress shop not offer a free steam the week before the wedding?

    Hi Ladies thanks so much.

@ Soon2bemrsK: Yes its haning in a garment bag in my closet. I didn't ask the store, I will def ask them about the free steaming. I guess I just wanted it to be clean because people tried it on in the store. I am not sure how to clean it. It is brand new. Oh well I will just call the store thanks.

If it was tried on by other people in the store i'd think they would offer to clean and steam it for you before the wedding when you bought it. i would definitely ask the store!

My family owns a bridal shop so I hear the stories. Aside from simple steaming, you want to have it professionally cleaned by someone who has a reputation cleaning wedding gowns. Not all dry cleaners are alike.

Exactly what @Starbuck said -- be sure to find a cleaners that SPECIALIZES in wedding gowns.

I was informed by my mom's friend who does alterations that bridal shops clean them by wiping them down with baby wipes and then steaming them.

Which, to me, doesn't seem all that helpful :/

I would definitely call ahead anywhere you go!
