Getting Rid of Old Bridesmaid Dress - Would That Upset You?

Would you be offended if you found out one of your friends was getting rid of the dress she wore as your bridesmaid? I'm a terrible liar so if she ever asked about it she'd find out right away. I don't want to offend/upset her, but I hate having things around that serve virtually zero use.

A couple of years ago my mom had a class reunion and reconnected with a friend that was one of her bridesmaids. Her friend told her that her 4 daughters had loved playing dress up with her old bridesmaid dress. It gave me the idea to give all my old prom and bridesmaid dresses to a friend's 3 year old daughter she loves them. Only a 3 year old can appreciate all that sparkle, lace and pink.

Not at all. If it can't be worn again to another function, I don't see the point in keeping it. My girls can do whatever they want to with their dresses after their wedding. Totally their prerogative.

Wouldn't offend me at all and I bought their dresses. You could donate it to Operation Prom or an organization like that.

If you're this worried about it you should just ask her. If she paid and had the expectation of selling them herself then she'll probably get upset, but if she bought it for you with no intention of getting it back I don't think it matters what you do with it.

Even If I paid for my MOH dress and she got rid of it (trashing it, or donating it), I still wouldn't care. It's not even a conversation I would bring up.

I wouldn't care at all. I'm getting rid of my wedding dress which upsets my mom because she wants me to store it until I die.

I wouldn't be offended at all. I don't think people actually expect you to wear it again anyways

Regardless of who paid, I wouldn't care. I do agree with PP that you should donate it. There's gotta be someone, somewhere who is in need of a formal dress.

Personally I really don't rewear occassion dresses, I donate them or they sit in the back of my closet. I would not be offended. The only dress I was thinking of "shortening and wearing again" (like in the movies) is the one I wore for my sister's wedding bc I genuinely love that dress.

I picked the styles of BM dresses and let them choose which dress to wear in the hopes that they could wear them again if they wanted to, but I wouldn't be offended if it's something they don't plan on wearing again and they decided to donate it.

She shouldn't get offenses at all. It's your dress not here.

All I can image is a crazy bride saying "you can just shorten it and wear it again!" Hahaha no.

I have donated many bridesmaids' dresses. Let's face it. That "dress I chose so they can wear it again" rarely turns out that way.

@Mary- do you expect them to keep it in the closet forever?

Nope... and that's one of the reasons I told my girls to choose a design they liked in black and I'm providing them with a golden belt so it'll be the item that will set them apart from other black dresses there, one of my BM's is already using hers for a different event after my wedding

I wouldn't be upset. I kind of expect my bridesmaids to try and sell or get rid of them after the wedding.

If you purchased it, it's yours to get rid of. I still have the bridesmaid dresses from weddings I've been to, but just because I'm a borderline packrat and not because I'm going to wear them again.
