Getting Ordained in VA - HELP

Stacie, on May 25, 2012 at 12:40 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 6

So we were thinking about having FH's uncle marry us. However I'm finding out this may be much harder than originally thought. To any of my VA brides who are doing this, which county did you go to, and how hard was the process?

Also, he is not a minister by profession, so he doesn't have an active church. However, he does attend church regularly.

Do it online as Mrs. Clark said. Our "minister" got ordained for our friends' wedding online 2 years ago. Since, he has married about five of our other friends including us Smiley smile

So I think we've figured it out. The issue with the online thing is that most counties in VA make you provide certification that you're an active minister in a church. However his uncle lives in a county that allows a one time civil ceremony order. So we should be ok.

He does however have to pay a $500 bond, which he will get back once the ceremony is done.

Are you getting married in the county Uncle lives in? If not, that may be a problem.

Virginia no longer accepts online ordination. The best solution is to get ordained by one of the cooperating churches of HLAM Ministries. Don't try online ordination in Virginia, since all of their courts have a blacklist with all of the online ordinations on it.
