Getting Married on a Friday...am I the only one?

Kayla, on October 24, 2013 at 11:52 AM Posted in Planning 0 60

So I didn't want to get married on a Friday I wanted to get married on a Saturday but nearly every venue charges way more money for Saturday ceremony and food prices Smiley sad. In order to save a lot of money we opted for Friday. I'm worried that our guests won't make it because of work. We are starting the ceremony at 6:00pm. Should we move it to 6:30? Aahh I'm stressing out.

    Deep breaths ...

I'm getting married on a Friday too. Check with your VIPs and make sure they are okay with it, and also think about the potential of a Thursday rehearsal. If they are fine with it then carry on as planned.

As for the timing ... Pushing it back a half hour won't make that much of a difference. If people are going to travel, they're going to leave work early or take the day off either way. My ceremony is starting at 5:30 with or without everyone there. Cocktail hour at 6, reception at 7. If people decline because it's a Friday, they will save us $200 or so

I'm getting married on a Sunday for the very same reason! If people can't come, I don't really care to be honest. Everyone who wants to be at your wedding will find a way to be there! Most people understand that these off days are money-savers and most likely they will have enough time to plan for taking a day or two off Smiley smile

Nope! I am too, in 15 days. We did it for several reasons, but yes, some people aren't coming because of it. I saved a ton of money doing it this way, got a longer honeymoon, and don't regret a thing. We are doing something a little later so some people can come after work.

Many people in our area are getting married on Friday, because it does save a lot of money. It seems to work for them. My wedding day will be on a Wednesday. We are renting our venue/ vacation house from Sunday until Sunday and none of the weekend days worked in that time frame.

We were originally doing Friday, but our church has time restrictions to windows when your ceremony can take place. We changed to a Saturday afternoon because no matter the day hors dourves are cheaper than a full meal and we wanted the best food for our buck... we got more options this way! :-D

I am getting married next Friday... Our ceremony will start at 7:30

So Far we haven't heard we cant come because we have to work.. We have had about 50% RSVP yes and we are okay with just a small group of people actually showing up!

Most of m family have taken off work Friday for the wedding because I have a whole day planned. I did ask my VIP's if Friday would work for them just to try and make sure. Good Luck!

I looked at Friday options as well. I would suggest moving it to 6:30...depending on how traffic is in your area.

Do what works for you and your budget. No one understands that more than we do!

I've been to a wedding on a Friday night it was perfectly fine. If you WANT to be there then you WILL be there.

I'm getting married on a Friday, too! Our ceremony is at either 3:30pm or 4pm and our reception is at 7pm. This totally worked for our budget - and as far the guests go, well, everybody knows it's on Friday so it's up to them to take the day off and be there. I've stressed out about this before but I realized that if they want to be there then they'll be there. No worries, everything will work out perfectly! Smiley smile

I do Friday weddings almost every week. 6:00 vs 6:30 wont' make that much of a difference unless everyone is local; most people will have to take the afternoon or the day off.

I am getting married on a Sunday, which is similar. We are concerned about the same thing (haven't sent out invites yet) but we're doing it because FH is Orthodox and they get married on Sundays. His side is totally ok with Sunday weddings, obvs, but my side (Roman Catholic) is kind of like "ummm....Sunday really?" Many live out of town. It will be interesting to see how it goes.

Keep us posted. I think you'll have a great time and be fine!

My wedding was on a Friday at 4:30pm in my church and I was okay if some people couldn't make it to ceremony due to work, school, and children. I had guests arriving from all parts of the country and Canada and no one complained about our wedding date. To my surprise our church was packed with guests who wanted to be there and witness our unity of love even if they weren't going to the reception. Honestly, some even thanked us for choosing a Friday instead of Saturday because they were able to have a long weekend and recoup after partying the night before.

So don't stress about a Friday wedding do what's best for you and your FH those who wants to be there will make every effort to attend regardless of the time. Happy planning!!

ETA: I've been hearing about a lot of Thursday weddings, maybe that's the new trend.

I'm getting married on a Friday. The ppl who care about us the most won't blink to miss a day of work for us. I'm hoping it will keep some of our less close obligatory invites from coming

I'm getting married next Friday and the ceremony starts at 5:30. I think only like 3 or 4 people won't make ceremony cause they love quite a distance away and leaving work with traffic. Save the money book the Friday and don't stress!!!

Breathe I'm getting married on a Friday it was way too expensive for a Saturday night and it's just not worth it to go broke for 5 hours

My ceremony is starting at 8 see if they can do a 730 start?

I got married on a Friday. A few out of town guests used it as their excuse why they didn't come, but my guess is they wouldn't have come anyway. Like others said check with your VIPs on the date (not just that it's a Friday) if you really want them there.

We ended up with a smaller wedding that planned and I was SUPER happy it turned out that way.
