Getting married during the week?

Melissa, on May 2, 2016 at 1:42 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 21

Hi fellow brides to be! Are any of you ladies getting married during the middle of the week? Or have any of you attended a weekday wedding? A venue were considering is priced at 2500 during the week as opposed to 4000 during the weekend. I'm thinking about it but i just don't know how strange it would be. Our budget is ****. Thanks!!!

I have attended a summer wedding on a Tuesday night several years ago. They had a banana split reception. If you have a lot of people nearby you want to have attend I think it is doable especially during the summer. If not, weekend would be your better bet.

Thanks you! Banana splits that's cute!! Unfortunately its actually in January. Half of our guests are retired the other half are not. The majority of people are not drinkers..but as I'm tying this I'm realizing there are a lot of kids..I didn't even think of the children lol they'll have school, so I guess weekend will be best!

Truthfully, I likely wouldn't attend unless it was very close by and I was very close with person getting married. It would be a time crunch and would feel stressful.

I've attended a Thursday evening wedding during the summer. The venue was a 45 minute drive outside of the city where the bride and majority of the guests lived and I think the ceremony started around 6pm (maybe slightly earlier?). You've just got to make sure your guests have ample time to get to the ceremony after getting off work. Try not to host it too far out of the way for your guests because the further then drive, they won't be able to show up until a later time and they will probably need to leave earlier to get home at a somewhat decent hour so they can rest before work on Friday morning. Also recognize that any OOT guests might not be able to take off that much work to make it to a weeknight wedding.

For the record, a Thursday night wedding was not terrible and I don't think their attendance suffered (as far as guests who lived within an hour of the venue went). It could have been slightly more convenient, though, if they had picked a venue that was a tad closer.

Thabks for the advice ladies. If we do decide a weekday I'll make sure to pick Thursday. I'm going to talk to my parents as well and see what they think. Luckily a lot of our guests live here and live all relatively close. My parents will be able to give us a good insight Smiley smile

I've gone to a Monday and Thursday wedding. Traveled for both and had a blast.

Thursday, in my area (NYC?NJ) is definitely the new Friday. I have several venues that heavily promote it, and they are booked literally every week, especially during the summer.

We do weddings on every day of the week; I just booked two Mondays. Generally, I think it's a better idea for smaller, more local groups.

I think it's fine if it's a local wedding. Just expect some guests to leave early if they have to work the next day. Also, try not to schedule it in the middle of the day. I recently got an invite for a local Thursday wedding at 2 p.m. I probably would have tried to go if it was in the evening, but a 2 p.m. wedding will require guests to take the day (at least half the day) off work.

Also, I don't know if your date is flexible, but I feel like you might have bigger turnout for a weekday wedding over the summer than in the winter, especially if you're in a colder climate state with snow.

We probably will, but we're having a destination wedding, so it's likely that people will be spending several days down there with us, so it's not like they wouldn't have to take the time off anyway.

I think most local weddings are more likely to have declined on a weekday wedding, and/or have a much less "party-like" atmosphere at the reception, because people will not be drinking as heavily.

I went to a Monday wedding and it was the worse.... and on top of everything it was a dry wedding, it was beautiful but nit too enjoyable, considering the fact that I had to go to work the next day.

I've been to a Sunday Wedding. To make matters worse it was heavy appetizers and dry. People danced for 5 minutes and then the wedding was over. Fortunately I had the following day off!

I'm having a Monday afternoon wedding for the simple fact that I'm Wiccan and are getting married in the afternoon and then having a handfastening with my FH later that evening with my Wiccan family. The afternoon ceremony is mainly for his side of the family and the few of my family who doesn't support the Wiccan culture/ would put up a hissy fit if we included the handfastening in that ceremony.

We're doing a Monday! The price was the main motivator (ALL the vendors give major discounts, not just the venue), but we liked the idea of giving people an "out". At first I felt like an asshole, especially after one close friend said they probably couldn't come, but I've been blown away by how many people responded by saying they "wouldn't miss it"! Its 2 hours away from most guests so semi-destination and we're partying the weekend leading up to the wedding at a vacation rental.
