Get dressed at the hotel or venue?

juicyj19, on March 15, 2019 at 11:48 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 2 7

I am getting a hotel suite with my bridesmaids the night before the wedding. The plan is to get hair and makeup done and take some pictures in our robes in the room. However, I am not sure if I should put my wedding dress on at the hotel or wait until I go over to the venue to get dressed. The venue is 10 minutes away from the hotel. What suggestions do you guys have?

I think it would be more comfortable and easier for you to get dressed at your hotel. 10 minutes drive isn’t long at all.

How are you getting from hotel to venue? If you’re getting married in the summer it can be hot getting into a parked car (unless someone like Uber, a friend or a black car is coming to get you), let alone getting into the car in a wedding dress. What is the shape of your dress, will it fit comfortably - without getting too wrinkled - in whatever kind of car you’ll be in? Is there a dedicated (and pretty if that photo is important to you) space at your venue for you to get into your dress?

I agree with pps, I think this depends on your transportation and the facilities at your venue. Daughter and the BMs spent the morning of the wedding at our home after getting hair & make-up done separately. We had lunch and the photographer arrived to take some getting ready shots of the girls. Then the BMs all put their dresses on and we drove in three cars to the venue. Daughter was completely ready except for putting her dress on. There was a very specific shot she wanted of her dress hanging from above a big double staircase at the venue, so the photographer did that first thing. Then all the women went down to the "bride's room" which was clean & bright, but not very big, and daughter put her dress on there with the photographer's assistant taking pictures of the girls and me helping her. Right after that, she did a first look with FOB (who we'd kept her dress hidden from for a year Smiley winking ), and then first look with the groom. After that they did a bunch of wedding pictures. The ceremony began about 2.5 hours after the time we arrived at the venue.

Mine is the same way, the venue is like 3 minutes from the hotel. But me and my girls are going to get dressed at the hotel and then head over to the venue. This may be slightly different cause my venue is outside....

I'm getting ready at our hotel and then putting my dress on at the venue in the bridal suite. I didn't want to have to worry about getting in and out of a hot car in my dress.

I am wondering the same thing as well. I think maybe I will wait to get to the venue?

    I am not sure yet.

    1) Is there a suitable place to change into your dress at the venue and 2) how are you getting from the hotel to your venue. I wouldn't want to put my dress on in a bathroom or anything, but I also wouldn't want to smush it into anything less but a perfectly clean car. Also depending on the style of your dress one option may be a lot more practical.
