Gastric Bypass and wedding dress shopping

Alexis, on January 24, 2020 at 11:47 PM Posted in Fitness and Health 0 6
Hi everyone!

My fiancé and I are getting married 6/2021 and I’m estimated to be having gastric bypass sometime in 4/2020. I’m nervous about dress shopping as I’ll still be losing weight and don’t want to buy a dress that ends up being WAY too big and having to buy another one. If anyone has has experience with this, I would truly appreciate the feedback. Thank you!

My mom had a gastric bypass in November 2018 and my wedding was July 2019. She started shopping in May because that is around when she plateaued. If your progress is similar, then you should have plenty of time to get a dress. I would also maybe look into getting one that has a built in corset (not necessarily one showing) because they are a bit easier to adjust if you lose a bit more between the final fitting and the wedding day.

I had gastric sleeve april 2016 , I got married june 2016. I wouldn't go dress shopping to early ! Not just because of the weight but the style that looks good on you now might not when you loose the weight.

I wouldn’t go shopping yet it’s to early. I’m having bypass on 2/4 and my wedding is 10/4. I have to order my dress by 2/15 to arrive on time. I plan to order my dress 3 sizes smaller then what I am that day. The seamstress said she can also alter my dress down up to 5 sizes so that is helpful. I am also worried about altering the dress that much but I don’t want to order to small. Good luck!!

Thanks everyone for the response! I’m just nervous about everything coming together on time. I prefer to not go to David’s Bridal as I have had some bad experiences there was I was a bridesmaid in a couple of weddings but I heard dresses come in quick for brides. Thanks again for the advice!

So I had surgery a little over a month ago and have lost 40lbs. I plan on reaching out to local bridal shops in November to see what they recommend time wise to come in. I’ve heard David’s bridal dresses usually come in pretty quick compared to locally owned shops so worse comes to worse I’ll order from there.
